I was able to do this also with internet sharing on the phone and ICS on the PC. Tether your phone to your PC. Make sure the PC can get to the internet. You can then bridge the wireless modem with a local area connection and share that through ICS. I was able to get this working with a PS3, a PC and a switch. ICS is not very reliable though.

So I can't take advantage of this wifi sharing program? I just got my HTC Touch Pro 2 in the mail yesterday by the way!

I was told an Internet Access Point Router would be easier and more reliable to set up than a Wireless Router; why do you say ICS is not reliable? I have never tried it, I'm just curious. Thanks!

Then we set up network sharing on his laptop. there is a tutorial built into windows that will guide you. Just select the option that lets you connect to a computer that is directly connected to the internet. When he wanted to use xbox live, you log on to his neighbors wifi signal, then he would connect to the internet using his xbox. he used it for years until his neighbor moved a few months ago. Im sure you could do the same thing. tether the phone to the laptop or desktop, connect to the net using the phone, then log on to xbox live or the PSNetwork using the crossover ethernet cable. This will not work with a straight through ethernet cable.
Thanks a lot, this way I don't have to buy extra equipment, just a crossover ethernet cable (is this cable special, or does it just hook right up from my ethernet port to the back of the PS3, and the 'crossover' part is already built in?)

I can get a pretty strong 3G connection on my Touch Pro 2 I just got in the mail, plus I have a netbook that is pretty portable, so I'll turn ICS on and get some magic going hopefully!!

Up next, using my new HDTV as my monitor, and finding a wireless keyboard on line that has a trackpad built in - so I can get some computer usin' fun from the comfort of the couch!

Re: My Holy Grail of TP2 hack-question... Wifi Networking with PS3???

I emailed HTC earlier this week about their custom built Wifi Internet Sharing program that I have seen in the past and I believe might be native on some devices (but not my Touch Pro 2 I activated this week)... and they said it was a Wireless Access Point, NOT an Ad-Hoc!?!? How is this possible... if this were true, it would solve all the problems of internet connectivity and sharing between gaming consoles and cell phones.

I Googled several times, but couldn't find any trustworthy current release downloads of the HTC program, I haven't heard back from their support staff how to download the .CAB file directly to my TP2 yet though, couldn't find the software on their website. I wonder why this app is more well-known? It's made by HTC specifically for their own phones, and it does what Walking Hot Spot and WM Wifi Router both do, for FREE.

ICS is software based router. Once you disconnect your phone you would need to go back and setup the network bridge again. This method wouldn't require any sort of a router just a switch or crossover cable between the ethernet port on the PC and PS3.

I think I have HTC app your referring to, XDA Wifi internet sharing, if so this appears as AD HOC and not an access point.

That's what I thought! How could a rep for HTC be so ill-informed!? If it was able to create a true outgoing wifi access point, I could just hit connect, throw the Touch Pro 2 on the couch beside me, and get on Playstation Network and game the day away! Geeez... come on HTC, where's the hiring process?

Thanks for your help! I am going to try downloading the HDA HTC wifi app since HTC won't tell me how to download it myself; hopefully it works alright, because this whole 21-day trial thing with winmo wifi router is getting old, lol.

I've gone ahead and upload the install cab to the thread. If this is not ok someone please remove it and my apologies.
