Just a point of reference, he is speaking about storage, not RAM.

I do agree, these things need a minimum of 1 gig onboard for storage. Of course 4gigs would be much preferred.

I haven't tried sktools, maybe I'll give it a go before a hard reset
u can save your game progress to man, not with pim backup but by copying over the game data and reloading it

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

My storage is down to about 40mb, for is really low to me.

If I back up with SPB Backup, hard reset 2x, then restore, will it be rid of these "footprints", or will they just be reloaded with the rest of my settings and programs?

I also regularly use Clear Temp and cleanRAM...do those help with storage too, or just RAM?

How much available storage space (not RAM) do most users have on their TP2, on average?

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

im about at 40MB on my device storage as well. the one thing that took up a chunk of my device's memory was CMYLXGO's bib pimp package. that thing was around 74MB! and i don't think i can install that on the storage card. can i?

also, is there any way for me to take out Sprint TV and Sprint Music? Possibly Streaming Media? because i don't use them. i know there are a couple of bare stock ROMS out there, but these are the only things really bug me about being and the phone an not being used. oh and maybe the Getting Started too.

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

Yeah, I'd like to uninstall Spring NASCAR...ugh! I just deleted the whole folder.

Though I might have screwed myself cuz I installed MemMaid and have just been going through and deleting all kinds of stuff...hope I haven't busted my phone!

I found that a big chunk of used storage comes from cache folder in HTC Albums. I've cleaned that folder out and am up to 56mb!

After having gone through and deleted stuff via the Storage Use tab on MemMaid, I'm actually up to 64mb! I deleted that album cache folder I just mentioned, one in AP Mobile, a couple of those annoying 30 song clips they load on the phone, and the whole freakin' NASCAR folder.

And now soft reset....

Storage = 64.31mb
Program Memory = 106.85mb

I think MemMaid is a trial use, so I've set ClearTemp to clean the HTC Album cache & AP Mobile cache. From what I can tell, accessing your pictures a lot fills up storage memory, so clean the HTC Album cache folder regularly. I checked and I can still access all my pics, so it doesn't look like I deleted anything critical.

Now, is there a way to keep Active Sync from turning itself on and popping up on my Quick Menu?

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

Did a re-test to be sure...

Opened up "Albums" and scrolled around a bit.
Took memory down to 59mb.
Cleaned with ClearTemp.
Back to 64mb.
Scrolled in Albums again, let more images load, and flipped through a slide show
Memory at 53.19mb
Clean with ClearTemp; 11.2mb cleared
Memory check = 64.40mb

Only programs I opened/used was the Album and ClearTemp....nothing else was in use. So it looks like the Albums cache is the culprit. So with ClearTemp (which should be free, though I don't remember where I got it...it's been a while), set one of your custom folders to \Application Data\HTC\HTC Album\Cache. Hit "Menu", then "Apply Settings". Then you should be set. On that same screen I also have the "Cache Folder" and "Mail Attachments" options set to Windows, but I really don't what that does, if anything.

But by all means, PPC gurus, if this isn't right and I'm actually screwing up my phone, for the love HTC PLEASE tell me! I'm no computer expert; I just messed around til I found something that worked!

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

is CleanRAM the same as MemMaid?...meaning both does the same thing in cleaning up un-needed files? and can if I use a registry cleaner, can i feel safe at deleting the registry because the cleaner said it's a bad registry?

Re: TP2 needs more internal storage - Device memory is low!

I think MemMaid does what CleanRAM does, but is more developed and has way more option. I think CleanRAM only cleans RAM, i.e. your program memory, not your storage space. I use CleanRAM, but what I'm talking about in my above posts is ClearTemp, where you can set it to clean specific folders (maybe you can do that with CleanRAM too, I dunno cuz I never thought about it til now).

Like I said, I THINK MemMaid is program you'll eventually have to pay for. I haven't used it in a while so I'm not sure. If so, you may still be able to do clear some stuff off your storage space as well as your program memory with ClearTemp (this program has a trash can as an icon).

There is also a program called TreeSize Mobile that I got off the Windows Marketplace. It breaks down the folders and their sizes on your phone and storage card, something MemMaid also does.
