Re: how to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use
Well, I don't know how all of you got so lucky with unlocking the sim, but I just got off the phone with a global rep and he told me that I have to have my phone for six months before I can "technically" unlock the sim. (Because of the fact that when people unlock it, they take their phones to T-Mobile.) (Direct quote.)
I told him that I was going abroad and wanted to use a pre-paid sim and after about 20 minutes of him talking about his granddaughter and international calling rates and how to make sure to use Verizon overseas, I had to say goodbye... What did I do wrong? Should I call back and hope I get a more reasonable rep? Will they have a record of the call and what I was asking for? What to do... What to do...? Any advice from people who know the Verizon system? Thanks in advance, aundrea009 **EDIT/UPDATE: Turns out that the guy I talked to the first time was just a douche... Second rep was cool and gave me the sim unlock #, no questions asked. Guess it's the luck of the draw when it comes to getting a good rep. Last edited by aundrea009; 12-08-2009 at 12:10 AM. I thought you had to have the account for a year. Your bill also has to be current, can't be past due.

no, they can unlock it. It's at the reps discretion. If they won't do it, try again. It's annoying when people actually want to use their phone overseas with a far less expensive pre-paid, and these douche reps won't let you.

Re: how to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use
I just called Verizon global a few hours ago and they unlocked my phone without any hassle. The guy was also quite nice. After I did so, I installed my T-Mobile sim and it worked without a hitch. I haven't tried to set up data, however, since my Tmob prepaid plan would make that rather expensive, so I'm fine without it.
At any rate, what's cool is I can switch back and forth between Verizon and T-Mobile without taking out my sim at all. All I have to do is go into phone settings and switch between GSM and CDMA and the phone does the rest. So basically, I can carry two phones in one (well, three, counting Skype). With call forwarding, this adds another insane but cool layer. Since I have unlimited vzw to vzw minutes as well as unlimited tmob to tmob minutes, I can switch radios depending on whom I'd like to talk to. Also the tmob unlimited nights starts at 7pm instead of 9, as vzw does. Pretty spiffy. Edit: I was also able to connect with the Vodafone sim I brought back that has my UK number on it (not the Vzw-Vodafone sim that comes with the Vzw TP2). Albeit it connected roaming through AT&T, it worked great.
