Microsoft .net Compact Framework 3.5 safe?

I am trying out the Weather Enabled GPS Radar program, but after installing and running it, it advised me that a newer version of Microsoft .net Compact Framework, Ver 3.5, was needed.

Apparently .NETCF Ver 2.0 is installed on my Verizon Touch Pro 2. I did some searching and found links to 2 cabs here:

http://pocketnow.com/how-to/tutorial...t-framework-35

The first will install CFNET 3.5 and the second will make the appropriate registry entries so that the OS recognizes and uses this update.

I have downloaded these files, and am just a little leery of installing files at the OS level without some confirmation that this is safe to do. I've installed some regular games and programs, but haven't started tweaking the OS yet.

Anybody do this, have any warnings, problems, etc.?

Thanks!

Re: Microsoft .net Compact Framework 3.5 safe?

Quite safe. There is also an add-on app that will let you select which .netcf is actually the system-wide default e.g. 2 or 3.5 (under Device Policy tab). You can also set individual application policies, defining which .netcf individual apps use in case one prefers 2 over 3.5 (under Application Policy tab).

See attached.

That's actually the 2nd cab file I mentioned. Sounds very useful.

Will go ahead and install.

Thanks!

Re: Microsoft .net Compact Framework 3.5 safe?

My apologies if this has been covered, but in regards to getting this setup on my device - should I install to Device or Storage Card? I'm imagining that it's the former than the latter, but I thought I'd clarify!

EDIT:

Yikes, I really should follow through on the link! Install to Device. Check. =D

It's still quite slow on a TP2.
