Quite safe. There is also an add-on app that will let you select which .netcf is actually the system-wide default e.g. 2 or 3.5 (under Device Policy tab). You can also set individual application policies, defining which .netcf individual apps use in case one prefers 2 over 3.5 (under Application Policy tab).
