Virtual Keyboard on TP2

Hi there! Is there a way to make the virtual keyboard not pop up on default? I have looked through other threads and messed with my phone but I can't seem to be able to make it go away. It always pops up when I open up my text messaging. It's a little thing, I know, but annoying me.
