Here's some more info I forgot to add earlier: I noticed that when it was stuck in 1x, even during an active data session, calls were still coming through. I tested this by streaming via WunderRadio continuously and then placing a call to my phone. The 5 different times I tried it the music stopped and the call came through. Now if we are indeed getting a 1x connection, the call should have gone directly to voicemail, right?

Back in 1X land again. My first *228, option 1 didn't fix it and now the kind 228 lady says she's sorry but she's unable to program my phone and I should try later. Sigh. And the phones replaced because of this issue also have the same problem? I really love this phone but this issue may be a deal breaker for me.

the *228 thing happens to me sometimes too. Just keep calling back until it works.

Thanks. I just did my 3rd call and it hasn't corrected the problem yet. I'll keep trying as this seems to be the only thing that we've discovered that will "unstick" the phone, correct?

most of the time yes. I've also had it do the same thing as you after a 228 but if I do enough soft resets and battery pulls it comes back.

The battery pull and waiting a few minutes did the trick. Or maybe it was my lucky shirt, or the planets were aligned.

I woke up this morning to find my phone in 3G, but now it won't establish a data connection. Trying a hard reset next...

I just hit the reset button until it comes back. Usually 2 to 3 times. But i noticed I wont go back to 1x unless I soft reset. Using the Power button is the only way i can restart my device and stay in 3g.

same for me,,,,,goes to 1x and it doesnt let go.... new phone and worked once. I have a blackberry and its always full bars evdo so what gives here and is there a fix?

everybody that has this problem should make sure a ticket is opened with 3rd level support so they can track this issue and either fix it on the network side or make sure HTC addresses it with a fix.
