Sprint says it's unlocked out of the box, but it's still locked out of US-based GSM networks, doesn't matter what SIM you pop in there. Domestic or international, as long as it's going onto any US-based GSM network, it simply refuses to work.

The Telus tp2 isnt unlocked out of the box. And if you want to unlock it you have to pay for it. no one on here has been able to crack the telus tp2 for free, they had to pay some company.

Yeah that I was aware of. I'm just saying that for Sprint, it simply won't ask you for an unlock code because it's "unlocked" out of the box, but will not work on US-GSM.

VZW is different though, it asks for a code and so far, a roaming onto AT&T tower has worked but nobody has tried a local GSM card yet.

because we are ppc geeks and its the first htc device to work cdma and gsm on sprint we just like hacking and showing off what we can do with out tp2's!

you can just call them, tell them you are going out of the country and want to use a prepaid sim cards from the country you are going, and dont want to have to pay the expensive fees sprint charges. I did this when i had the blackberry storm with verizon.

We tried it, they told us it's unlocked, and fact is IT IS.

... EXCEPT for going onto the US-based GSM networks. It doesn't matter WHAT SIM card you put in there, local (home service) or international (roaming onto), as long as it sees going onto an US-based GSM network, it'll just refuse to work.

yeah you don't even have to call them, just pop in an overseas card and your good to go.

Hi to everyone!

I live in Mexico City and got my TP2 from Sprint few days ago. I was wondering too about unlocking GSM in order to use with Telcel or Movistar but i never thought just put the SIM and see what happens. I will post later for results.
