I'd want to because Sprint's signal is lousy at my house. AT&T's signal is very good.....and they just installed a new tower 1/10 mile from my house. Sprint needed the tower.....AT&T installed it. If I could switch without it costing a fortune, I would. Sprint is really stumbling IMO.

You people do know there is an unlocker coming out for Sprint phones right? Supposedly they already have it working........Should be out with the release of the hspl and will be given to donators of the project and I believe helping members of the community.....

So if the SIM is not locked, would it be safe to assume that in the radio software it is written to not connect to 310/311 cellular base station /networks?

Can you please point me to a post that says this? I've been searching for information on allowing the Sprint TP2 to work on American GSM carriers however I haven't find anything. All of the unlocking threads I've found are about the HardSPL and unlocking the device to allow ROM flashing. That's not to say the process of using the HardSPL or flashing to a custom ROM couldn't completely unlock the GSM radio, but I haven't seen anything implying that it would.

Buried in the first post of the HSPL thread, there is a statement of the possibility of unlocking the GSM.

Ah, yes you're right. According to the latest update both the HSPL and SIM unlocking tools are done and should be released soon. Very cool stuff, although the licensing that's mentioned is something I've never seen before for unlocking tools. Not that I'm complaining though.

The licensing should prevent people from reselling the software, or charging for use.

Yeah I understand what it's for and I have no objections to it at all. It's just new to me, I've never seen this provision for unlocking software for previous Windows Mobile devices.
