Bottom line, as long as that signal goes on to an US GSM network? It will not work.

Just sit tight and wait, when the HardSPL comes out and the door opens, it's just matter of time until we sort that out.

I hope that in fact it just works with no trouble, and it will be even greater when someone figures out how to unlock it for US GSM use. I will purchase a SIM for a pay as you go plan to stick in it for the US to give me coverage with a GSM carrier where Sprint sometimes has no service.

But you wouldn't have the same phone number as the TP2 has on Sprint/Verizon, would you? So to roam on U.S. GSM on a CDMA TP2 you'd have to have a seperate phone number tied to a SIM card, i.e. there's no way to roam on GSM in the states using your Verizon/Sprint phone number, or correct me if I'm wrong.

I sure hope we figure this out when the HardSPL gets released. The only reson I would upgrade to a TP2 from my Diamond is because I have to carry around an ATT phone and my Diamond. Otherwise, I'll just wait until a good WinMO phone on Sprint launches with a fast OMAP, Tegra, or Snapdragon chipset.

Looks like there's a company unlocking the SIM slot on the TP2s. The OP states that he can get the phone to read the SIM cards now, the phone can find the network, but it won't register.

Honestly, reading between the lines, I think he used an unactivated SIM card... so yeah, it kinda *wouldn't* register on the network. :P I could be wrong though.

I can tell you this, I've put in an active AT&T and T-Mo SIM into the TP2, it just won't work.

It's locked down, due to FCC regulations.

From what I understand, HTC didn't pay to have the FCC approve the GSM radio in the CDMA/GSM phones, because they stated in their FCC application that the GSM wouldn't work in the US.

Now, whether that can be unlocked, or overridden by the elite team remains to be seen ...

The verizon TP2 reads US gsm sims. Verizon users just get the unlock code from verizon global services.

Try turning off the GPS on the phone and see if it will work. I know the Airave uses GPS to make sure it only works in US.
