Re: What HTC and Verizon say about the FM Radio
Ok, here is another as a zip file. This MUST be installed in device memory and NOT on the sd card. Also requires a soft reset after installation.
I will also post a link to the xda thread so that if you run into issues you can go there for help. htc radio.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521356 R |

Re: What HTC and Verizon say about the FM Radio
Is this not the Bluetooth chip in our Touch Pro 2's? I thought I read that this was the model of chip in our phones:
The Broadcom BCM2075 Broadcom's BCM2075 Extends Combo Chip Portfolio Delivering Simultaneous Operation of Bluetooth®, GPS and FM Radio in a Single System-on-a-Chip Solution ![]() The Bluetooth core is architected for high functionality and low power requirements and features the on-board multimedia processing to enable MP3 and other features in more affordable handsets. The chip's FM receiver features superior tuning and station search functions for worldwide frequency bands while the FM transmitter supports programmable output power and a sophisticated algorithm that recommends the best transmit frequency for broadcast to car radios or home FM receivers. By providing market proven implementations of all these technologies on a single combo device that saves power and size, Broadcom seeks to help drive these adoption rates in next generation handset products.

Also, I was looking for FieldTrial.exe in my windows folder and found the following set of files: FMRadio_PPC_480x800.png, FMRadio_PPC_800x480.png, FmRadioSdk.dll, FMSDKWrapper.dll, FMSkin_480x800.txt, and FMSkin_800x480.txt. Not sure what they are doing in the ROM, but makes me wonder if it is there. I have tried the FM Radio cab and it didn't work, though I was able to tune it but didn't hear anything.

In the Windows folder, you will also find BTFM, which opens the FM radio interface that is built in. (Bluetooth FM)
It would be nice to find out what Bluetooth chip is in there. However, my readings show that Qualcomm started developing the multi system on chip design in 2007. Which includes hybrid radios(both GSM&CDMA), FM, and Bluetooth. All in one chip. Hmm, sounds a little similar so far. I'm sure someone, somewhere has or will disect one and hopefully spot some detailed markings on the chip. Or maybe, I should just ask HTC what Bluetooth chip and revision is sitting in their devices. That information is what will ultimately lead us to making our FM radio work, or will tell us flat out if there is FM radio ability at all! Last edited by santod; 09-22-2009 at 10:10 PM. |

Just did some digging. It looks like we do have FM radio built in. I searched the FCC site for the Verizon model (grantee code: NM8, Product Code: RHOD500). Select the detail link for any of the results, then the Internal Photos link. This will bring up a PDF file with internal photos of the phone, showing off the chips (granted this looks like one of the older, prototype models). The first photo on page 5 shows a closeup of a Broadcom BCM4325 chip next to the Qualcom MSM7600 processor. A quick Google search turns up this page on Broadcom's site about the chip. It describes the chip as: "with integrated IEEE 802.11a/b/g (MAC/Baseband/Radio), Bluetooth 2.1 + enhanced data rate (EDR), and FM receiver." Here's a PDF about the chip: http://www.broadcom.com/collateral/pb/4325-PB00-R.pdf Now we just need someone to do some more digging/programming to get this sucker to work. Justin |

Re: What HTC and Verizon say about the FM Radio
Thanks, I was poking around on the FCC site earlier and got side tracked. That was the info I was looking for.
