Mandatory Bing update. Frustration!

With those of us who are not happy with it, it is primarily because of poor results and user interface when searching for example, for Movies:

With the old Bing, it would provide a list of Theaters in the designated search area. You could click on any of these Theaters, and a list of the movies and times for that Theater would be displayed. It was very thorough and well organized.

With the new Bing, for many of us the search results are very incomplete, and typically for locations relatively far from our GPS location. In addition, there seems to be no way of simply getting a list of theaters, and clicking on each to see what is playing there.

With this in mind, since Bing seems to be working well for you, how does your Movie search operate? Does it find all the theaters local to your GPS location? Does the interface allow you to seemlessly switch from Theater List to Movie List by Theater?

I know the added Navigation is a big plus for many, which is why they like that. But many of us have no need for that function (I use Garmin Mobile XT, which additionally is not dependent on a cell phone connection), and the Search function seems dramatically worse with the new Bing.

i really dislike this new bing. No gas prices is a big problem i have with it. Also 90% of the time no search results show up in the local section. I agree on the movies. On the old bing i loved being able to search by theater or movie, and i got lots of theaters. Now it shows only three theateres. I have yet to use the new navigation, i have sprint navigation and dont really use bing for that. The bing looks nice but the userbilty is dramatically reduced.

One cludgey work-around that works for some phones/OS's, is to have Bing 4 installed, put your phone in Airplane Mode, start Bing, wait a few minutes (while the Update expires in the background), and then turn Airplane Mode off. For some when this is done, they can use the old Bing, and not have the Upgrade box come up.

You then either have to keep Bing open, or go through the process again, for this to continue working.

I can't seem to get this working on my Verizon TP2 (WM 6.1, Stock ROM), but it does seem to work for others.

FWIW. Microsoft peronnel on their website keep indicating that they're passing the feedback to the Bing development team, so maybe something will change (although I'm not holding my breath).

I just found this out a few days ago by trying different things also.
I have a stock rom 6.1. I turn airplane mode on, then open live search, wait 10-20 seconds, then turn airplane mode off and its good to go until you exit the app.

As nearly 95% of people here say, the new Bing app is pretty much useless, I 100% agree.


I don't know what happened in my previous install, but it stopped forciing me to update for some reason. Now I have done a hard reset and I can't get it to stop.

Unfortunately, no.

Microsoft continues to ignore posts about this on their official "support" forum. Basically they don't care what we need or want - they know what's best for us!

It's funny, the only two things I used to use the old Bing for were for movies and for gas prices. Now they're both gone. The new Bing is terrible IMO. Way to go Microsoft for taking a step in the wrong direction.
