Re: Sprint TP2 6.5 OEM Freezes when Exiting SMS/MMS

The length of the freeze seems to be proportional to how many texts you have from a number. I've also noticed that if you open tmail, open a long thread, close it, and let it freeze... that same thread won't freeze again until you close tmail and reopen it.

Seems like it's parsing through all the texts.

One hypothesis I have is that each individual text is stored with the name of the contact in it. So if I get a text from a guy I have named "Joe", that text is forever going to have "Joe" as FROM. If I update Joe's contact name to "Joe Schmoe", it doesn't affect the texts I've already received -- the remain FROM "Joe". However, any new texts I receive from that number will be FROM "Joe Schmoe".

I think when you close a thread, it looks through the messages and picks the FROM name from the last one, and updates the FROM name on the thread. I don't know why it has to look through each one, but it does. Maybe it takes so long because it does some kind of wildly inefficient sorting to find the last message from that number, or maybe it loops through every message from that number in a sort of "Is this the last record? Is so, use this FROM name" way. Also absurdly inefficient.

What still confuses me is why more people don't complain about this. If it's a flat-out tmail issue, everyone would experience it, and anyone who does more than low-moderate texting would be going bonkers. If something else makes tmail do this, I'd love to figure out what it is so I can work around it.

I've played with number of contacts and contact pictures already.

Someone suggested it might be HTC Task Manager, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to disable that service in MightROM to test the theory.

Re: Sprint TP2 6.5 OEM Freezes when Exiting SMS/MMS

The fix is to delete/backup all those extra useless texts and contacts? I think that's a pretty reasonable option. I would absolutely hate to deal with all that clutter anyway. I mean, are people thinking they need to look up when their ex said "lol" in 2009, or the number of a friend's friend they met at a party three winters ago?

Aterion: Maybe the service can be disabled in the services section of dotfred's task manager? http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm

I see a thread on disabling the default HTC messenger in favor of pocket outlook. Which is weird because it looks like it IS using pocket outlook on my phone, and that's where everything is apparently being saved. Anyway, maybe it'll be useful?

It's not "definitely sense" it's not "delete your texts lol", it happens intermittently regardless of all the variables I've tried changing.

What I can't understand is why there isn't a massive uproar about this. My guess is that most people don't experience this problem, which baffles me. What's different on their phones than mine?
Wow, slow down. I'm using Sprint 6.5 stock, and I'm fine with txt msg, means never get a freeze because of that. So there's something unique on your phone. One thought, do you have co0kie?

I've gotten it with and without CHT. The one constant seems to be threaded messaging and "a lot" of texts (whatever that means exactly).

There is not much of an uproar because it's chalked to up another "omg winmo sucks so much," you can convert to classic messaging, you can use a 3rd party messaging client, or you can just live with it.

I myself am on Classic now.

Interestingly enough my TP2 didnt have this problem when I first got it with WM6.1.. I started freezing up after the MR1 release.

The issue is directly related to the number of text messages. If I only have a few, then there's no problem. Once a few hundred pile up, the phone would freeze for about 1-2 mins when pressing "back" to exit a conservation thread or exit the text message app.

Re: Sprint TP2 6.5 OEM Freezes when Exiting SMS/MMS

I've been trying to find a solution to this problem since forever ago, I just started bothering to look it up now since I got used to it... Seems like there still isn't a fix to it eh?

What I do is instead of pressing "ok" after I'm done with the text message thread, I'll press end call to back out and either use the top right hand corner task list to close out the messaging or use task manager to end the task.

What I'm wondering is, if there is a way to turn my temporary solution into a macro of some sort so when I press the okay button it actually does all those commands and ends the darn text messaging app for me? Since there doesn't seem to be a real solution yet..
