Re: how to usb tether on sprints 6.5 stock rom

[QUOTE=Nextguy;1708833]A pitfall that makes tethering confusing for the Touch Pro 2 with WM65 and Sense 2.5, was that if you select the Internet Sharing from the Sense 2.5 pop-up (just after connecting the USB cable), "tethering will not work".

However, if you select Active Sync then go back and use the Internet Sharing from the Start/Tool folder, then "tethering does work".

Thank you so much for posting this! I could not for the life of me figure out why my tethering was hit or miss. Now if you could just figure out why Bluetooth tethering does not work I would be great.

Again, thanks for posting this!

thank you

When it came to the 3rd registry value, there was no value:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
MaxCMCon=0

in that folder, but rather in the folder [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
maxCMConnectRetries=0

so I figure its the same thing and I left it alone without creating this key value.

Works like a charm

thanks

Same situation in my case. I just made the other edits (delete DLL, change to "Sprint", Flags) and left that alone. Works great on my Windows 7 laptop. I am running the stock Sprint 6.5 ROM.

I can also confirm that this does not interfere with the excellent CMInternetSharing app that lets the phone act as a Wi-Fi router - so nice to have tethering options! I did need to restart the computer between testing this USB tethering and switching to the WiFi tether, though.

Thanks and thanked!

i simply installed wmwifirouter. no tethering charges incurred so far. no reg edits or hacks either. downside is that you have to buy it.

I'm using the stock 6.5 rom after the touch pro 2 cleanup cab and it works fine. What do the reg edits do? I'm gettin speeds of around 65 kb/s to 68 kb/s. Is there a way to make it any faster?

1 - using a regedit program

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll" entry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint" (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
MaxCMCon=0 (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it)

[HKLM\Services\CMGuaridan]
Flags = 4 (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it)

2 - power down reboot
3 - Plugged in phone to laptop
4 - On the ActiveSync, Disk Drive, Internet Sharing Screen I chose Internet Sharing.
5 - Connected right away and it works faster too

SpeakEasy Test 1.37Mbps DL / .46Mps UL

Re: how to usb tether on sprints 6.5 stock rom

Tethering works over BT but it's a little tricky. I paired my TP2 with my Acer Aspire One by making the TP2 discoverable and finding it from the Aspire One. When asked which services I wanted to connect to, I selected only Network Access (it gave me several other options including Activesync, which I already do with another PC, serial port, etc.). Then the devices were connected after pairing. I had to disconnect them (I did this from the TP2). Then start->tools->internet sharing (I don't use TF3D, yours may be different), select PC Connection as "Bluetooth PAN", and hit "connect". "Select a Device" comes up, and I select the name of my PC in the list. It says "Checking services" for a moment, then the first time I got a confirmation on the PC, which I accepted and said "allow these connections automatically from now on" or something like that, and the second time it just went through. It shows "Bluetooth Network is now connected" in the taskbar and an IP address in 192.168.0.nn. Works well so far, though I only use this in emergencies.

Ok, so there are three ways we can tether: USB, WiFi, and Bluetooth. With Sprint, is there a difference in which network we access based on which tethering method we use? For instance, I will be vacationing in an area that has excellent Sprint voice signal coverage. On the "Data, Email, and Multimedia" map, however, it shows no 3G coverage but good "Nationwide Sprint Network" coverage (whatever that is). My concern is if WiFi sharing uses the 3G network and USB tethering uses the voice network, then I will need to do the registry edits so I can USB tether while I am there (I currently only use the XDA WiFi sharing program to tether). Anybody know if the different tethering methods use different networks?

whatever way you connect computer to phone (usb, wifi, BT) has no impact on what network the phone will use. Phone will select 3G or lx depends on the network strength locally. I would never depend on carrier map as they are nearly worthless
