I used my TP2 in UK. I used both t-mobile pay-as-you-go SIM as well as one from H3G. H3G or # as it's known over there has best 3g+ coverage in UK and phone will use Orange's 2G network in hard to reach areas. you can buy 5day unlimited web access off of your pay-as-you-go credit and use that with tethering. calling back home is costly but you can use skype for that.
with t-mobile, you will get 3g coverate, but 3g+ might be iffy. web access is same as H3G and in addition for 7 pounds you can add 120min to call to northamerica as well.

I should add that TP2 ( atleast mine from telus ) is not SIM-Unlocked. so unless you get that done, you may not be able to use local SIMs and will have to pay hefty roaming charges. before I had mine SIM Unlocked, on my first trip lasting 3 weeks, my bill was whopping $1500 or thereabouts. Tethering will *not* be an issue so long as you get your phone SIM Unlocked and switch to local SIM.

Just would not work. I normally use PDAnet, which has been very reliable and discreet. Simply did not work. I am loathe to just use the Sprint solution for fear of getting hit with major charges. My fear is based on the fact that I have $45 of charges for "help" calls from them that they keep saying they are taking off but never do. I personally think they just have people trained to "shine us on" until we forget there is bogus charge on our bills and it just goes through.

Re: tp2 in europe

Question, if I go overseas and get the TP2 SIM unlocked and insert the foreign country SIM, do I need to do anything to make sure it makes the calls from the prepaid SIM, or does the SIM card take priority automatically as long as I call local and not use country codes like 011(country code) to dial?

Re: tp2 in europe

The Sprint system worked fine in France bouncing between Orange and SFK. Nice high speed. Try to figure out the tethering.... I did not have time.

My apologies. I am visiting this forum after a long time. TP2 sold in north america by Verizon, sprint & Telus is a worldphone as opposed to GSM. which means that while in north-america in global mode, it looks for CDMA networks first. In phone settings, you can change that so that it only looks for GSM networks. if you visit outside northamerica, best bet is to change that setting ( it will help with battery life a bit as well based on my experience ) so that it looks only for GSM network. once that is done, all calls and network access is will be via GSM network using SIM in the phone. even if you use country codes, it will still use SIM.

HTH

What did you use for tethering? I used both wifi based tethering available from XDA forums as well HTCs internet connection sharing via USB. HTC's connection sharing is available in most custom ROMs ( I have used, Mighty, Mr. X as well as Energy and all three have it ). in both case I did not have any issues. only caveat was that with WIFI tethering phone goes thru battery like there is no tomorrow. so best do that with phone hooked up to power.

Re: tp2 in europe

I just was up in Canada and PDAnet worked just fine. I'll have to check this out again. I have not tried all the hacks to do tethering since I only rarely use it under stress. I have the plain Sprint 6.5 ROM on. I'll probably try one of the new ROMs when the bugs get kicked out, but I have been very happy with this stock ROM so far.
