Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?
I'm not trying to put anyone down but I dont understand why WP7 is getting such a negative reputation when we dont even know all the specifics yet. The unveiling was just to show us the major features of the phone. I'm sure they have things and kinks to fix and change before it is released.
For people to say I can't wait to jump to Android, well its your opinion. But wouldn't you want to physically hold a phone running WP7 in your hands and test it out yourself before you put a negative spin on WP7? I hear people saying it will not have multi-tasking and so on and so on. But Microsoft did not say anything about multi-tasking as of yet. As far as customization, I believe HTC said their phones will be unique in some ways. So I think customization will still be there, especially with the developers here at PPC Geeks and XDA. We have not seen the business aspects of the phone yet, or the phone features itself. The conference was just to get the "big picture" out and the little details will begin to surface sooner or later. Hopefully at MIX. I'm not a WinMo fanboy but I think WP7 has HUGE potential and upside. And I trust HTC will make this phone absolutely awesome. They always find a way to make their phones stand out. |

Microsoft wants a unified platform like Apple has. They've learned from Apple and are going to go one farther. So far, that's what they've got. They are doing very well. WP7 looks awesome, but it also alienates a LOT of the current WM 6.x following. The concepts behind each are just plain different. Microsoft said this isn't EOL for WM 6.5 yet, and they will continue developing it... There will be a following for a while, I'm sure. They'll reach a point where they leak one last build, and that'll be it. I'm sure they will leave us with a finished product, even if it isn't much different from what we have now. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Where did you expect WM 6.5 to go? Am I ready for WP series 7? No. It's not what I've grown accustomed to, but I'll wait till I get one in my hands and see what it's all about before I jump ship to Android. Microsoft's got a good thing going, let's let them develop it a little bit. Last edited by ShadowDrake; 02-16-2010 at 08:17 PM. |

WP7 looks so plain, not quite as I expected it would be. The leak screen shot back in 2008 is look much better.

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?
WM7 just looks horrible. My main thought as I'm reading all these articles about it is, F#$% THAT. Even if it WAS backwards compatible I'd still be reticent to try it because of what I've read about the crippled multitasking & the 'cloud-based' BS. I don't want all my stuff stored on some remote server, I want to be able to use my phone even if I don't have a data connection or even cell service at all. I like tons of options & hackability, I don't like idiot-proof interfaces, and I don't need built-in social networking crap. Total freedom with apps & customizability are more important than simultaneous twitter & facebook updates. Are they trying to attract the iPhone crowd or something? Cause unless they slap an Apple logo on it, that shiz ain't gonna happen. I appreciate what MS is trying to do here, they obviously heard all the bitching from people who thought WM was 'too hard to use', but WTF are they thinking, seriously? "Lets take our tried & true OS & see how much we can dumb it down & piss off our legacy users!" Smart, Microsoft, SMART.
I'm happy with WM the way it is now. I will take a looksie at 7 when it's released but I doubt that a pretty interface will sway me away from 6.5. So far the only thing thats looking good about 7 is the black keyboard skin. Everything else they're advertising that it does, can be done already on existing WM releases. 7 appears to be just a pretty, Zune-like interface. And if I wanted a Zune interface, I'd buy a damn Zune. The only way, and I mean the ONLY way I would ever switch to 7 is if it does end up being backwards compatible.

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?
I am really interested in how m$ will implement customizations to this phone. I would rather have a phone that allows me to 'tinker, blowup and retinker again'. With that said a better entertainment experience would be nice...mediaplayer sucks!

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?
I don't know what to think of Windows Phone 7 yet. Microsoft has been pretty quiet on the most important details so far.
Will it multitask? Can we install cabs or are we limited to only installing from the marketplace? Can we still use 3rd party interfaces like SPB Mobile Shell? I need official answers to those questions before I make a decision. I have to say though, Microsoft's silence and dodging these questions kind of worries me. And if the answers to those questions aren't what I'm hoping for, my next phone will be an Android. |
