Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
You guys reallly need to get a life outside of the small Devices area lol..
I know I am just as big a TP2 fanatic as others here.. But the TP2 will not be the last of its kind.. People still like the hardware keyboard and proof of that is some of the new android phones coming out with keyboards even with lots of others going capacitive, On top of this all the doom and gloom of Windows Mobile 7 is really starting to anoy me. (Not personally but on an interweb feeling level or something lol) Windows mobile 7 is going to be pretty dang awesome I dont care what rumors come out ahead of time.. IF they make a version that is limiting like the ZunePhone and such to compete with the iPhone (why they keep trying to attack the iphone straight on is beyond me) then hey, that will be ok.. But it also looks like their will be 2 versions. 1 for Media, and 1 for business. Business being more like Professional is on our devices now. Probably with a lot of multitasking and such just like we know and love. And all in all these dweebs saying OMGWTFIMJUMPINGSHIPTOANDROIDITSSOOLEETTOAOSMICROHA XHASYETTORELEASEINANYTRUTHFULLDETAIL!!! is really just another poor sap who doesnt have a clue.. The Net is just full of em. Once we get ACTUAL Devices running it in our hands then we can see where we want to go... And being a Windows Device still... Who in the hell says we cannot hack it to perfection anyway? Another positive note i do see about the new OS being a bit limited at least on teh media side... What about the positive posibilty of Windows Updates? Android and iPhone have it and if windows mobile would have it, then having the latest and greatest os on our phones would have a lot less need to hack to install custom roms.. Maybe not the best Idea for the true hackers and tweekers in us, but again that leaves open options for the rest of us who like more customizations.. for the rest, it will alow people like your GF, non techy friends, and such to enjoy a devie outside of the "i" world that can probably end up doing much more in the long run.. OK done. Maybe not fully on topic but still... TP2 FTW! ![]()

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
The OP is correct, tp2 should be the last phone we buy without 1ghz processor minimum or multi touch capabilities. That's all he's saying.

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
Okay here's my $0.5 worth...A 1Ghz CPU sounds cool on paper but remember this, more Ghz = shorter battery life, even if the CPU is heavily power optimised. Secondly, having played with several android devices I still choose Win Mob simply because the mods made by some of the people here and on XDA-Developers are awesome and miles easier to install. This said, multitouch is nice but the TP2's zoom bar pretty much renders it obsolete.
From what I understand (and I'm probably wrong),Win 7 is going to be the consumer grade smartphone OS, with another more potent version that has multi-tasking etc made for business users... Throwing out a decades worth of development to match (what is in my humble opinion) the rather crappy iPhone is just nucking futs (but then thats Microsoft these days isnt it) The TP2 mightn't have the latest but it does work well and there's acres of cool apps and mods available for it. The big out-take here though is that Microsoft seem to have lost the plot with their mobile plays and need to sort themselves out. I reckopn there's a big market thats untapped for an independent app store for Pocket PC devices, perhaps someone cold write one? |

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
I'm not yet an owner (still on the fence between TP2 with the great key vs Droid Eris)
BUT- You've got one powerful tool here that HAS GSM/GLOBAL capability on Verizons network. If you travel internationally, that is really something. And I can't quite pull the trigger on Eris because I want the TP2 key and GSM! But the endless tweaking and ROMS...personally with a family and work, I just don't have the time for that like I would have when I was single. TP2 is a nice device and I do like the chunky feel. |
