Re: Is it just me or does WM just plain suck?

Already is superior as anything that can be done with a phone, can be done with a windows phone. They had a big head start from the original PDA market. They've not made any great strides in improving the product, but others are still playing catch up on actual capabilities. Others may be more "popular" in the fad scenes, and may also drive market innovation, but the phones that businesses buy thousands of and hand out are either blackberry or windows. From an IT perspective, blackberry is a pain, not to mention expensive companywide implementation in comparison. If RIM doesn't address it, it will be Blackberry that fails and for no other reason than server side functionality. For the large companies and IT staff, Windows phones are just another PC to tend to, where everything is familiar.

iphone and android may well develop into a true professional mobile computing device one day, but the day is nowhere near.

Those that think Windows phones suck are apparently seeking a gameboy/phone rather than a PC/phone.

^ Thats another aspect that I forgot to mention- the business aspect. Businesses look at 2 OSes when they need mobile deployment, Blackberry & WinMo. iPhone & Android do not even get considered. As far as the professional world is concerned, they're just fancy toys. Will that change? Possibly, but not anytime soon.

Re: Is it just me or does WM just plain suck?

I think that in this case windows mobile is a lot like linux ubuntu in many respects. It has a cult like following and yet, in terms of popularity, it just isn't there.

We die hards understand how well windows mobile can do, how customizable it is, and having the ability to run android (seriously) is a great asset

But because its windows and people mimic each others arguments heard without understanding them, it is widely assumed windows mobile sucks because it is microsoft, you support the antitrust and the antichrist and so so...it makes me go wtf are you guys drinking

Re: Is it just me or does WM just plain suck?

They don't offer management tools for android or iphone. Plain and simple, until they do, they will no gain widespread acceptance in the business world. Not to say certain businesses won't have a particular need better served by a particular iphone or android phone application. But for an all in one general business communications tool, blackberry and windows have the market cornered due to their variety of business apps and IT administration tools. No discussion can change that fact.

Each device has their merits and downfalls. Each user has their own uses. It is up to the educated consumer to decide which is right for them. If they buy a device and have a bad experience, "this doesn't work" or "the competition can do ....", they whine and complain claiming the device or service is the fault rather than accepting the responsibility of not properly researching their purchase (and generally being a moron). Things such as the OP of this thread are all part of the greater failing mental state of todays population, complain and blame rather than educate, innovate, and overcome.

Re: Is it just me or does WM just plain suck?

I'll chime in. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong.

1. To the op, do whatever works for you PERIOD!

2. I have an iPod Touch and the TP2. It is a love/hate relationship with WM. I have used the 6600, 6700, 6800 (Mogul. Kabuk1.. I agree this was an awesome phone), the 6900 (Vogue), the TP1, and now the TP2. To those that didn't know, you CAN jailbreak the iPod Touch just like the iPhone. I can practically do everything on the iTouch that I can on the TP2 except for make calls. There are countless Remote Desktop apps to connect to your pc (I use Logmein Ignition) on the iTouch. You CAN download through the Safari browser. There are quite a few ways to play flash through the iTouch, you would just have to take out the time to find out how... xsellize website would be a start.

I LOVE WM. When the mogul first came out I ran WM5 on it and it was BLAZIN. Never seen a device run so fast. 6.0 was not as fast but was better. Neither device is what it can or should be unless you unlock it. WM is crippled by neglect and by third party software TRYING to help (but ultimately hurting).

I have unlocked every WM phone I have owned to make it USABLE. At the same time I had to unlock the iTouch to make it USABLE. They both excel over the other depending on what you need/want it to do.

THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER. THERE ARE WRONG PEOPLE TRYING TO PRODUCE THE RIGHT ANSWER.

I plan on getting the iPhone. I don't dislike WM but I think it may be a better fit for me. I plan to keep my TP2 at the same time. What works for me may not work for you and vice versa. That should be ok.

What exactly is the real world benefit of an unlocked TP2, are there functions that cannot be performed with a locked one? I've not found a reason to unlock and flash mine yet. Everything is perfectly usable. Some tweaks are preferred, but no unlocking is needed to alter them. Everything works great with simple cab installs or registry edits.

My point is that out of the box as the manufacturer's intended them, winmo is a better, more configurable and more feature rich OS that comes with all the business adminmistration tools needed for an IT department to handle thousands of them within an enterprise. Blackberry can make the claim of enterprise managability, but cannot make the claim of being as configurable. iphone and android are good standalone devices, but their intended purpose is not the same as a winmo phone.

It is sorta like the kid down the street running a freeware FTP server off a notebook. It works, but not as well as true enterprise class hardware and software.

Same people that try to make such comparisons are the ones that put gofast stripes on their hondas and wanna race every mustang or firebird they pull up beside. Trying to hype something into something it's not is the effort of a fool.
