Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
Get the touch diamond then get the Touch HD when it's released. U dont wanna get left behind while waiting for the Touch HD. Nobody even knows if it will hit the north american teritory. I agree with the lady. The diamond is Hot! I wanna make it sexier by looking for a less capacity batery to make it slimer. o2's version got the slim back cover and it's black. I think that will fit.

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
ya i agree.. by the time the touch HD comes out (prob 8 months from now) then im sure htc will come out with something even better then what are you gonna hold off again?? Im buying the diamond now and start saving for my next phone in a few months, i've had my htc touch for prob 6 months and now its time for a change...that's just how technology runs these days.

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
Can't say for sure if I'll wait, switch providers or what. I am getting tired of seeing all the current tech available on GSM 4 months to a year before we see it on CDMA. The only thing holding me back on the jump is my service plan - hard to start over on negotiating a good deal with a new provider.

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Here's an approximate screen measurement. Note that it is not official.
There is no doubt the main feature of the HTC Touch HD is a big screen in a small form factor. Unfortunately we know who big the device is, but have no idea what the exact size of the screen is. Fortunately a bit of image manipulation will soon reveal all. First we perspective-correct and crop the best front-on picture. http://wmpoweruser.com/wp-content/up...9/touchhd5.jpg Then we resize the picture so it is calibrated to the mm ruler, so the known width of 63mm is also 63mm on the ruler. http://wmpoweruser.com/wp-content/up...9/touchhd4.jpg We then use this calibrated picture to measure the screen size. The screen is 53mm wide… http://wmpoweruser.com/wp-content/up...9/touchhd6.jpg … and 85mm long. http://wmpoweruser.com/wp-content/up...9/touchhd7.jpg Using a similarly calibrated inch rule, we can easily see the screen is around 3.8 inches diagonal, but not 3.5 or 4. http://wmpoweruser.com/wp-content/up...9/touchhd8.jpg So there we have it - 3.8 inches - much bigger than the iPhone 3G but in a smaller package. Congrats HTC. |
Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Wow, nice work, or are you just stoned? :)

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Here's what really sucks about this phone. I have the touch now and was about to show off the touch hd at work and show someone how pissed off this phone looked and how I was going to put off getting the diamond and wait for the HD when some careless F@#K walked by and bumped me and my touch fell into water and now seems screwed up. So I either replace with the touch or get the diamond. I'm not sure I can wait it out with another touch so now I may be stuck with the Diamond! :violent2:

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Just terrible! And here I was thinking I was gng to keep the Touch Pro for a minimun 3 years. Now this! Htc, "wha chu talkin bout willus!"

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
no matter what you get now there is always going to be something better.
|
Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
Wasn't the Diamond first released this summer? Now they are planning the HD for Dec. Only 6 mos. or so later. Seems HTC is looking to get these phones out earlier and faster.
For me the Diamond doesn't seem like such a big leap forward from the Touch but the HD and hopefully an Android phone does. The larger screen is a BIG +. I was disappointed that the Diamond is still 2.8". I'll wait awhile. |
Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
The Diamond first became available in Europe starting in May - full release around to all carriers in June. It may have been released earlier in Asia. I believe the Diamond is 2.4" and the older touch/vogue is 2.8" but I could be wrong.
I'm all for HTC releasing more phones though! |
Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
I give this about 1 1/2 years before we see it on Sprint.

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
I said I was gonna jump ship when the Mogul came out (from my 6700) but it was never a big enough draw to me to do so. The Diamond, on the other hand, is so much better that the switch will be easy. Now, with the Touch HD coming out, how many of you can say that your Mogul/Touch is good enough for you to hold onto it for another year? Because it will take at least a year for this to come to CDMA, minimum. So, if you can keep your Mogul/Touch for at least another year, more power to ya, but I can't keep my 6700 that long. I'm going Diamond, and if it kills me not having a keyboard, I'll trade it in for a Pro.

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
capthr, thanks for the info - are you 100% sure the diamond has the same size screen as the vogue or is it possible they are including the area to the side where you bring up the cube menu system? I hope you are right - just making sure.

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
yea i couldn't make it another year with my touch either idk why but i just seems so obsolete now with all this new htc devices coming out now i don't think that it would even be worth the wait because by the time the touch hd hits Europe htc will have another device on the herizonen so then youll be waiting longer for it. i almost want to say i wish that technology would just slow down because my pockets just cant seem to keep up. but i want say that because i love seeing new technology just dont think that ill ever be able to keep up to date with it. well that's my two cents. o and by the way i will admite that the touch hd is a very very sexy phone i just couldnt see myself waiting for it because it might not ever make it to the US and if it does Who's to say that it will be CDMA

I think that's one reason Apple holds features back. They sold as many iPhones as they could despite the fact that it was only 2G in this day and age. Then they put out the 3G which had a compelling reason for people to upgrade after a year. I love a pretty device as much as the next person but I can't really get myself to buy something that does nothing new just because it looks nicer and is a more polished device. |
Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Update: We received a tip about the full system specs of the HTC Touch HD, so here they go in their full glory. Thanks
System: - 4-inch 65K TFT touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution - 512MB ROM, 327MB available to the user - 288MB DDR SDRAM - microSDHC (up to 32GB) - Built-in accelerometer Connectivity - GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100 - CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA - mini-USB connector - Bluetooth 2.0+EDR - Wireless LAN - FM radio with RDS - 3.5mm standard audio jack - GPS receiver Qualcomm gpsOne with A-GPS Camera - 5 megapixel autofocus camera - No camera flash - Video recording: 320x240 pixels(QVGA)@30fps - Secondary VGA video calls camera Battery - 1350 mAh capacity Since We have no word from HTC, I will still consider this unofficial. I still thinks it's 3.8" according to the measurements. If it's reallt 4 incher, All I can say is, more AWESOME!!!.MicroSD can support up to 32gigs. Downdall is still 65K colors. Y can't U match the Iphone with 16m. 1 more comment, Ditch the menu buttons and replace it with d-pad which for me is more functional. Or maybe, U have sensitive pad in there huh? Like the diamond with multi-touch function? well, man oh man... Y u make me drool so much HTC. I hate U!!! |

and what on earth would they charge for this? having a MUCH larger screen than current offerings, 5mp camera ect there's no way it would be offered for less than $650 before rebates/agreements and such...:disgust: Edit: And WHY would you pack in such a nice camera and still have no FLASH?! |

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
there should be an HD section soon. Not that I'm waiting on it, but I don't 'love' all these posts about the HD around here.. :(

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
avstheman - you've posted 7 whole times and you decided to chime in about other peoples threads - outstanding work!
Abovelegit - if this was a thread just about the touch hd - I could see you thinking it belongs in another section but since the topic is a comparison of Diamond I think it belongs here. Feel free to avoid this thread if it real hurts your sensibilities. You've posted twice in this thread you don't like the topic - really I promise not to put a gun to your head and force you to read this thread any more. I apologize for using threats of life taking measures to force you to read this thread and post how much you don't like this topic. That must be you who has clicked about 800 times on a topic that you don't like. Just in case you didn't notice, the SUBJECT of the thread mentions both the Diamond and the Touch HD - were you hoping to read about a book of the month club in this thread? Is there something confusing about the title of this thread that makes you keep clicking on it if you don't like it being here? I politely ignored your first request to remove this thread perhaps you should petition the governor. I've gotten some great assistance in doing things and learning about phones from many people on this web site. This is by far one of the most informative PDA websites I've ever come across. Why are you pissing on my picnic? |

HTC Touch HD
I was researching the Diamond vs Pro and found updates from yesterday and today about Dec release by HTC of the HD version with 4" screen. Has same basic internal specs as Pro, about the size of the Ipod.
Specs showed GSM. Anyone have any ideas on non-GSM versions in US, Sprint in particular? I was ready to buy Diamond, but would wait for this one in a heartbeat if only 3-4 months out. Or is this for everyone but the US? |
Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO
AVS - perhaps I was being a little harsh. Try reading the first thread - there is a comparison there. Try reading through my other posts in this thread I got some useful info about the Diamond. So maybe the thread is useless to you - feel free not to read it. I didn't know there was a standards committee you were on that authorized which threads were useful and which ones should be closed because you didn't find them helpful. But again you aren't required by law to read this thread - there are many others to choose from.

Re: HTC Touch HD
