Boy mine is ancient, it has a manufacturers date 05/02/07.

It has the pocketpc logo and does the"normal" dimming where it's still on at the lowest level, but in looking at your pictures Sinn, mine is dark yellow like your problem one.

I will be getting the new phone within 2 more days. I am dying to see it. What should I tell them at the store if the same thing happens with the new mogul? I think I will tell then to ship it back and i should just contact sprint directly at ecar or retentions right? Cuz I want to convince them to give me a working mogul just like the first one that i bought. Dont you agree? Shouldn'w we get the same product or should we settle for something less?

Sprint just called me to go pick it up. I will let you all know in a few hours if this is resolved. Prey for me.

Ok.... went to pick up the new replacement Mogul and the backlight DOES NOT turn off. The store said it must have been a factory defect. I am very glad this issue is resolved and I don't have to wait another week for another. As for the 3 other known moguls with this issue you could complaint about it to a sprint repair store and cross your fingers they can get a good one like I did. To me last mogul was not acceptable. PERIOD. The manufactured date on this one is Aug. 3 2007 and its not refurbished. As soon as I booted and saw the yellow Sprint screen I was sure it was fixed because it had a light yellow appearance . Not like the last one that had a strong deep yellow look to it. And yes the backlight color is halogen white, not yellow tinted. Thank god. Everyone.. take this info and use it at your own will. Don't get stuck with a bad backlight. You must get what you paid for. otherwise Sprint will maybe switch to a cheaper backlight thats going to piss everyone off. thank you all who helped me out on this one. God bless.


PS. They front buttons are not raised like most moguls too. But the keyboard has still a very slight play to it. But not as bad as the first batch of July.

I forgot to mention that this one is also not branded PocketPC. And I also want to tell you all that I am very happy to have a brite white hologen backlight again. (SINNN pats himself on the back) "everything is going to be alright"

UPDATE!!!!!! UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My replacement is on the left and my original GF mogul is on the right.
I thought this case was closed boys and girls. I was wrong. Ok.. my gf came home and I desperately grabbed her phone and put them side by side. At first I was convinced i had the right backlight but now side by side it looks like NOPE. Again.. I have a different backlight or different screen. Hard to tell.. but i think it is the backlight. I posted some pics. Yopu decide. The good news is that the light does not turn all the way off. So i am greatful for that. But unfortunately the yellow brown tint is there. So I would say compared to my GF mogul this new replaced mogul is about 93-94% as brite. Too bad I wish HTC or Sprint didnt do this. We can use all the brightness we can get. I wont go back to the store because I am sure I will get another new mogul with the same issue. Keep in mind I bought the Mogul when it was released on the first week. So I think the very first batch of Moguls had the best screen. So if you got the nice bright white backlight screen make sure never to break it cuz you will get a terrible this one like I did. Heres the picture..... enjoy and let me know what you think.

BTW, do you think I should even bother calling spritn about this. I mean.. I wish I should ahve keep my first mogul even thou I returned it because the stylus clip broke off. Do you think they would track that mogul and give it back? Im serious......... any help or imput? Or should I just live with this........???????????

I need all your help to decide my next step. Tell me should I complaint to Sprint and try to get a real white backlight Mogul or should I just Suck it up and just live with this. Remember.. if you break your Mogul you will get this screen.

Well it would be HTC to bitch to, not Sprint. HTC makes the device. They may have decided to change to an LCD to make the device cheaper to make and all the bitching to Sprint and getting replacements, etc., won't do anything. Go straight to HTC with it.

I tell ya... When I saw the SPL post, I was ready to buy a Mogul... but reading all these issues people are having, I'm having second thoughts...

That yellow tint is nasty. I'd not want a device with a yellow tint to the LCD...

I just emailed HTC. I will post what they say. Damn.. i must be the unluckiest Mogul owner out there. That new backlight is terrible IMO. paid alot of money for this?

Anyways.. i emailed HTC and explained my issue and even sent them a picture from what I posted here and here is what they said.

Thank you for your inquiry
I definitely see how this can be frustrating. However it seems that this device that you have is yet another defective handheld. what I would recommend is call Sprint and letting them know about his issue. In addition to that I would ask them to test the device prior to sending it out so they can make sure it's in working order.
