I've not yet seen a post that says the total Titan HW solution is capable of standalone GPS. The chipset - yes, but the antenna - no, what I've seen says it either doesn't exist, isn't connected, or is shared with the radio and therefore would work only for a-gps.
Can anyone provide a link to a post that says otherwise? I really hope it can do standalone. Now, whether Sprint enables it is an entirely different question... |

For what it's worth, I contacted HTC a few months ago with the following question:
"There is lots of debate on discussion boards as to whether the Mogul has standalone GPS capability or assisted GPS only. Could you confirm this?" HTC's answer: "The Mogul supports AGPS only, which requires a connected call to get data location. Whether or not the GPS chip is enabled on your device is strictly the decision of your carrier. I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions." Btw, I contacted HTC on several occasions and they promptly replied to all my inquiries.

A single antenna can be built to support a fairly wide variety of frequency ranges beyond 1900MHz. The Mogul's antenna interfaces with the MSM7500. Beyond that, it's all firmware.
Perhaps we'll not find out the real answer - perhaps we will. Read up on the specifications of the MSM7500 chipset within the phone... http://www.cdmatech.com/products/msm...t_solution.jsp Specs: 133MHz ARM9 companion processor, ARM TrustZone technology, Embedded QDSP4000 or QDSP5000 DSP (CDMA2000 1X Rel. 0 / Rev. A, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0 / Rev. A, GSM, GPRS Class 10 baseband), Embedded gpsOne GPS module, Qcamera, Qtv, Qcamcorder, Qvideophone Then, read up on gpsOne: http://www.cdmatech.com/products/gpsone.jsp Key specification: Supports Standalone-GPS, which expands the availability of positioning capabilities to areas where cellular networks are not accessible Anything's possible, for what it's worth. I have faith that the guys down the road will release something ONLY if it's possible, in due time. |
