Has anybody actually been able to perform an easy, quick, uncomplicated and smooth update of the ROM for this phone with a clear benefit?

....i have had an easy, quick, and uncomplicated update, but i'm not sure what you are talking about with the clear benefit?

i mean, there are bugs with both roms, the new one fixes some, but creates others. for me, I just learn to live with it, and ADAPT.

but if u fear updating may mess with something, then don't. especially if u dont really need sprint music store, since that's the only MAJOR update that this rom brings to the table.

Everything works fine here..

I downloaded and installedthe latest ROM from HTC America a couple of weeks ago, also loaded up the latest WLS and Mobile LS from Microsoft... no keyboard problems at all. The latest Live Search is awesome with the ability to toggle between map and satellite views. It freaks people out when I show them I can zoom right down to their house on my cell phone and see their car in the driveway

No - I haven't seen the old ROM hosted anywhere.

Just out of curiosity - why do you want the original one? I don't see any real advantage/improvement to the new one. But, I also see no reason to go back. (???)

i want to go back to the old rom for 2 reasons:

the keyboard works in .net cf 2.0 apps. i hate the palm sms threader (WAY too many bugs, how can ANYONE use this) and had found another one written in .net cf 2.0 that works great, but wont use the keyboard with the new rom.

when using palingro, 6800 users sound perfect on the old rom, but its absolutely unusable on the new rom.

when i received my mogul, i flashed to the new rom within minutes of taking it out of the box. really stupid move, i wish i could go back.

side note, as i was typing this, my phone lit up and sat there for 3 seconds before ringing, then vibrated constantly and would not answer or shut up until i took the battery out. i hope its this ROM that really sucks and not this phone.

did you skip the sprint customization when the 6800 started? one of the extended rom cabs changes the audiopara.csv, which controls volume.

there is a fix floating around for the volume. its not as loud as my Q, but its totally usable now. please search for earpiece volume and find that thread, as it is not related to the rom upgrade.
