(Fixed!) EVDO fails auth, 1X ok. Need PPP help/debugger
I used to have 1X & EV working just fine on Cricket in Portland, Oregon. I had to use QPST to clear AGPS settings and since then, EV fails to connect all the time with "Invalid username / password" error after dialing #777. Forcing the phone to 1X solves the problem.
Restoring previous QPST settings have no effect, and it's possible QPST is not the problem at all. I have been trying lots of settings without success, in all cases, #777 will always fail with invalid username/password. I use USER: 503xxxxxxx@mycricket.com PASS: cricket. I also use radio 3.42.02, I tried a few ROM's DCD, nueROM no difference. EPST settings all look ok. I called Cricket support and they "Reset my internet connection", but nothing. *228 works, but had no effect. FeildTrial, HDR tab shows "Data Session State: 0 = null", "HDR Session State: 4 = open State", "AN/AAA Authentication: 1 = Authenticated" UPDATE: - This problem was fixed. I cleared, rebooted and re-entered all 4 fields in the security tab of ESPT. EVDO is back up and working great. Thanks, Ylian Last edited by Ylian; 11-29-2008 at 07:53 PM. Reason: Found a fix. |

Ok, it was an EPST setting, I will try to get your screen shots later today/tommorrow.

My signal, both EVDO and 1x is 4 bars. The problem is authentication after dialing #777. I suspect it's just my settings. Getting good shots of ESPT settings would be great for lots of people, just make sure to blank out private information. If I get it working, I am going to publish screens myself for Cricket.

Re: EVDO fails auth, 1X ok. Need PPP help/debugger.
If you're phone is failing PPP authentication I'd call up tech support and ask them to do a PDSN trace.
PPP auth takes place between the MN (mobile node) and the PDSN. Once at the PDSN the request continues to a AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting) server. Within the AAA there are directory servers that interface with billing and a host of other systems that sets and confirms your session profile (COS, MIP, SIP, and other billing info such as cost and rate plan). If all is well you will be authorized - if not you'll fail to connect. By running a PDSN trace they should be able to see the access reject message and give you more info. Hope this helps a bit. |

Re: EVDO fails auth, 1X ok. Need PPP help/debugger.
Here is what fixed my problem:
In EPST Under Security The First two were filled in with my#@mycricket.com and cricket respectively. The second two (PPP as I recall) were blank. Fill these in the same info as above. If they are already filled in, esp the password, reneter them. |
This post has been thanked 2 times. |

Re: EVDO fails auth, 1X ok. Need PPP help/debugger.
ststephen is the winner here. After trying many different things, simply clearing, rebooting and re-applying the 4 fields in the security tab of ESPT... everything works great. EVDO is back up and running again.
It's very possible the QPST will trash the user/pass, even if it's not visible. Thanks ststephen! Ylian |

Great, so glad I could help! It was baffling me too, since I just got my Mogul the other day. Don't know how I lived with 1X.
