I'm only surprised that it took 6 posts before someone made that comment! (If you hadn't I would have)

Also used lots of different builds, kitchen and .exe's.

Well I am wondering about the usb port on the device. Are there 4 'wires' or 5?

Mine looks like this from front rightside up position > l lll < .... only four 'wires/conectors'.

So, my question is, how does your's look, and even though this will charge fine, do you think this can be the problem?

Thanks everyone for listening .... ok, well reading I guess...

Pin 1 -- +5 VDC
Pin 2 -- Data (-) -- This is your missing conductor.
Pin 3 -- Data (+)
Pin 4 -- NC or GND
Pin 5 -- GND

So, knowing this, the negative reference for your data line is floating which is causing bit errors when attempting to communicate with your host computer. This is also why the phone will still charge despite the missing pin.

Unfortunately, you're only fix will be having the usb port on your device repaired. Sorry for the bad news.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

my girls broke on here xv6800. One of the pins was bent. would be recognized by the computer.
I had to get a needle and bend it back into position. the 'flap' or 'tab' that is in there is plastic. you can break it so be careful. but if u get a good light in there and clear view and steady hand u can fix it. it just takes some coaxing.

use a safety pin. it is easier to hold. good luck.

oh yeah. take the battery out when u do this guy.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

thought about doing that, but, since my replacement will be arriving in a few days I don't want to risk it. The rom I have on there now is sufficient enough to last the rest of this week. When an exchange is done, u keep your old battery and I dont want to mes up my device where it won't charge anymore.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

I had a similar problem after examining my port vs my wife's phone I noticed that my pins were smashed down. After some careful prying with a small needle I restored them to the original position and it works great.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

I had this same issue wen I first had my mogul.

I have a Dell Laptop. I had plugged the USB into the docking station for my laptop and kept getting the same issue as the op. When I plugged it directly into the laptop, it went away.

It did the same thing again when I got a USB 2.0 4 port hub for it. Wouldn't recognize it no matter what I did.

I would also try going into the device manager and deleting any existing phone hardware related profiles on the computer. Then scan for new hardware. It will try to find the phone and it will install any necessary drivers related to it. (I have heard from our IT guys that they had issues with the mogul drivers becoming corrupted on other PCs at our other facility)

I too have a Dell laptop, Precision M65, and I have no trouble with plugging it into the docking station or directly to the laptop.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

This happens to me also.
What is happening is resource sharing. If you simply reset your phone, it will be detected.
There aren't enough ports on the device to support all the different applications. So they share. When one is using the port that ActiveSync uses (80) it says it can not detect the device.
Honestly, what's happening is that you were probably doing something like web browsing or receiving an email... blah blah...

If you disconnect your data connection it shouldn't have that error anymore.

Re: Is my mogul's micro usb port bad?

I tried reseting the phone while plugged in and pretty much anything most of you have said. It's gotta be a pin issue, I am not going to chance anything the new one is going to be in here in another few days, so not going to mess with this one.
