Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Shadow-tech:

After I flashed the Alltel 6.1, I successfully applied your GPS fix using QPST. The GPS worked great and locked on in 5 - 10 seconds. However, I have in the last couple days noticed the GPS is not starting up without a soft reset. The main thing Ive noticed is the registry settings you recommended for Alltel will not stick. I have repeatedly updated the registry and performed a soft reset and found the the Server IP and Server Ports are resetting back to default values of 195.207.101.126 and 7788.

Any ideas on how to get the registry permanently updated?

Thanks

I too have the WM 6.1 ROM. i used the alltel cab from post #2 to setup my registry. my registry settings have not be reset to the default settings. try my cab. you may be soft reseting too quickly. with registry edits you need to wait like 20-30 seconds BEFORE you soft reset. but like I said, the registry edits have held up for me just fine. let me know if this helps

If Im able to get the reg settings to stick, will this help with the issue of getting the gps to startup? I can only get 1 startup of the gps after soft reset. If I close the gps to run another app, then the gps will not restart.

thnx

i dont know. with the 6.1 i seemed to have issues until i entered the correct registry settings. but it could have been a placebo effect. to this day i dont know how important the registry settings are, but it cant hurt to have em.

i dont know why a soft reset would change anything. what app are u using with the gps?

Do you ever get an error about device.exe? After loading the Garmin XT app, I started getting device.exe errors, after which if I didn't soft reset the GPS wouldn't crank up.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=11 this has prevented that so far.

I also use Garmin XT, but I havent gotten the device.exe error. However, I have noticed that when I startup Garmin XT, it will freeze on the startup splash screen. I found that when I toggle the power button, it will bypass that frozen splash screen and allow you to run the app.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

my registry settings have stayed fine after the initial cab install. But I was having "device.exe" crashes once I had the Garmin app installed. If you have disabled error reporting on your device, you may not realize you are having the errors. Anyhow, I too have noticed that if I wait, power off and on a few times - Garmin will eventually start. It always starts up fine the first time after a soft reset.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

If I just bought a Verizon HTC 6900 and got it right out of the box, am I able to just follow Shadows first post (Originial Post) or do I have to download a differnent ROM first or what? Also, if I update to Windows Mobile 6.1 do I have to do something differently, should I not update to 6.1? Remember I am using verizon. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

OMG!!!! I'm away from PPC Geeks for like 3 months, come back to look over the last 80 posts, find this!!!!!! Thank you so so much! I don't mean to get excited, but my GPS has never worked in 5 seconds, ever! With all of the other GPS fixes out there, followed the instructions, worked. I still cant believe is, my exact location, I saw myself walking around the house, then they yard, then driving in my car. I thought it was a fluke, reset, then reset and tested worked, pulled battery out, replaced and still worked. Thanks!!!!
