Upgraded PPC6800 no internet and no EVDO coverage - Page 2

I'll check it out. I tried using the US Cellular rom because I know cellcom used to partner with them. Their website doesn't have much for support but I know a guy that works there that might be able to snag it for me. If I get it I'll post it up here for any of the other few cellcom (US) guys.

No worries. Thanks for the help. I took the risk knowing it would be tough to revert back, but man did I learn a lot. This site is amazing!

I'm trying to flash the Alltell PPC6800 rom from HTC's site, then will see if *228 works. Otherwise I'll try and get ahold of my buddy. Worse case scenario I do have insurance, hopefully I don't "drop" the phone....$50 deductable is better than trying to explain to the service dept what I've been doing

In the future, if you get a new phone with a Cellcom rom on it, note ALL of your EPST settings (write them down), back up your extended rom cabs to your computer, and then flash a generic kitchen rom. I know DCD's roms are generic, and he has you download a carrier-specific cab to provision the phone. Your extended rom cabs should be enough to do the same. After you flash your new rom, just make sure the EPST settings jive with the info you wrote down when your phone was virgin

I too am with Cellcom... "Clearly The Best!". There coverage in our area has been great, but I too, am frustrated with the stock Cellcom ROM. Have you had any luck? I have been thinking about trying out DCDs ROM.

If you want, go ahead and private message me on this forum. Maybe we can exchange emails and help each other out. Good luck to you. I know how frustrating this is. This device has incredible potential, but as it sits, it is a pain in the butt. I reset mine about 10 times a day with the stock ROM due to bugs and such.

Did you ever get the stock Cellcom ROM from your buddy at Cellcom?

tenthirty2, How do you back up all the extended ROM cabs. Sorry if this is a noob questions, but I have read a ton so far (over 10 hours on ppcgeeks and xda as well as other internet sources) and I don't remember seeing how to do that.

Incidentally, my phone still has the stock cellcom ROM if there is some way I can help byrnie (you would need to guide me thru this).

I have done a ton of reading and think I have a good understanding of how to do this. Have you tried DCD's rom yet? I would help guide you thru that. If you can get it working on Cellcom's network, that might be all the hutzpah I would need to try this myself.

If you can't connect now, you got nothing to lose in trying DCD's rom.

In order to get your data connection running again you have to use Total Commander and delete the HTC_CM_Guardian.exe file and replace it with a dummy file. Then you have to use QPST and save the current setting to file so you can a have a backup of the current settings on the phone. After those current settings are saved. You proceed by only changing the M.IP and PPP settings. The reason you cant get data connection running is because the password is stored in these settings so every time you try to connect it reads wrong user name or password. In HDR you have to change the settings as never locked because those previous password are shared or locked in. In MIP settings you have to edit the settings to your phone number@serviceprovider.net or com and type in your password. Also you have to clear the HA and AAA shared secret values to display nothing so the original password is cleared. You need to know the server addresses as well so they can be edited also. Save your settings to file and write to phone. The use ##778 talk and use EPST. Choose the edit setting and go to security. HDR user id is your phone number@serviceprovider.net and the HDR password is your phone ESN. In PPP user id enter you phone number@serviceprovider.net and the password is the same as the one you use when you try to log on to the cellular line usually the service provider name like mines is "alltel". Then go to the MIP default profile. The NAI is your phone number@serviceprovider.net Primary and Secondary HA is the server address that you entered in QPST if you know them. The HA Shared secret is your ESN and the AAA shared secret is the same as the one you use when you try to log on to the cellular line usually the service provider name like mines is "alltel". You have to use these same settings in all of the MIP profiles to match. I dont know what you server settings are because I'm an Alltel user with a Sprint Phone but I saved my Sprint settings for anyone who has Sprint and no data connection...or vice versa. But as i spent 3 weeks working Alltel for answers and trouble shooting the problems myself. I am 99% sure this is the method of retrieving your lost data connection and Please be sure to type the phone ESN in CAPS. heres my question......why buy a phone that your carrier cant fully support...cellcom? what the heck is that...ever think the evdo service in your area just sucks? im guessing my the tiny carrier you live in an odd area maybe...you might be stuck with poor service...

and you said you flashed according to the post... theres no cellcom ROM upgrade forum here when i checked.. so did you use a non carrier specific ROM?

Actually their EVDO coverage isnt all that bad. The only problem is that he is upgrading with ROMs that aren't carrier specific. I understand that he wants to cook up roms and probably get all sorts of special features and all. He's Probably just better off flashing back to a stock Cellcom ROM (if he can get his hands on it) and then using cab files to get some of the features wanted. Or is it that he wants WM6.1 and his provider doesn't support an upgrade. If so then yeah....thats all FUBAR!
