I started using it last week when i updated to 3.5 net compact framework. I like the desktop feel to it, and ways to customize. So far, cons are moguls memory issues, and its not free. Im still tinkering, but its pretty cool. Free demo is nice, but limited as far as customizing.

edit: I looked up SimpleOS but it looks just like another shell for WinMo, not an alternate OS.

That looks great. I wanted to install in on a Dell Desktop we have at home that had Vista on it. But it wouldnt install

Its not released yet. I saw a preview of it on youtube and I think...msmobiles.com

256 MB recommended Ram.... good luck with Ubuntu... and way to graphically intensive for our crippled chips. Maybe Eten will start building cdma phones.....

Were you just trying to install Ubuntu or this mobile version? Ubuntu runs great on old hardware and if you have really old hardware, try Xubuntu because it has a more lightweight desktop environment then the default (Gnome). While you won't be playing many games on it, Ubuntu is a great free OS for people who want to do web browsing, media management, and document creation. If you want to play lots of newer games or edit audio or video you are still gonna have to stick to Windows for the time being (although some will run in Wine).

I was trying to install Ubuntu on a computer running Vista and it went through the installation, but did nothing in the long run. I have an old NEC Mobile Pro 750c. I wonder if it could install on that?

You can install it on a Vista computer just fine. There are great instructions online for how to do this but the way I usually set up a dual boot (with XP in my case) is to use a partition manager to just break off a chunk of my hard drive and set it as a separate partition. Then I split that up into the root partition, the swap partition, and a shared partition. The root should be formatted as ext3, the swap as linux swap, and the shared as fat32 (shared partition is for sharing things between your OSes).

I know this is a half-assed explanation but if you google "dual boot Vista Ubuntu" you will be good to go. When you run the Live CD you have the option to install it and when it asks where to put the root, swap, etc you point to the partitions you just made. I know you can repartition in this installer but for some reason I always like to do that part in Windows.

If nothing else, Ubuntu is a very simple way to experiment and learn another OS and in lots of ways it's better than Windows (other ways, not so much).
