Re: Why one might sell their Mogul for a "normal" phone.
EVen though I really enjoyed my 6700, and think my new Mogul is the bombs, I was just about to get the Q9 for it's simplicity.
I rarely talk on the phone portion, just using the converged device for easy internet access to a few specific sites (news, weather, AvantGo, miniSphere). My main usage is listening to internet radio while walking, exercising and driving (through the van's speakers). I rarely use all the features like push mail and instant contact, and most of the new phones can achieve all those goals in a smaller and more compact package. I have looked at phones (the UpStage would be great), but I have to have ActiveSync-style contact management, and keyboard-style text entry with EV-DO speeds, and haven't found a phone with all of that. My contract's up in December, and maybe something will be right for me then. Meanwhile, lusting over the refurbished OQO 02 http://www.oqo.com/store/shop.cgi/op/op_index.html

Patience. I feel your pain OP - and I can relate. While I like to hack & tweak most things - I mainly do it out of necessity because the "out of the box" device isn't fully configureable enough - or has features I want locked out. THAT is frustrating to me. Fortunately - or unfortunately, depending how you look at it - phones like the 6800 (and for me, prior to it - the Razr) - we've got the ability to set our phones up as close to our liking as possible.
Yes, its frustrating, because many times - things don't work the first time you try to implement something. Maybe you can never get it to work. Who knows. So - i say - Apple is on to a good thing here as much as I hate to admit it. Their iPods are pretty darn solid device's. Hell - their pc's are actually temping me to cross over from Windows now. And, as for the iPhone - I only have this device because it was cheaper than an iPhone - and I'm not ready to buy the 1st generation of iPhone. As soon as they release an iPhone with a slide out or fold open keyboard, GPS, and more memory - then yep - I'll take one in a heartbeat. For the most part - they DO work - as designed and they are INTUITIVE as heck. |

Re: Why one might sell their Mogul for a "normal" phone.
I am also thinking of ditching my Mogul and going with the phone that works and a separate pda, such as Ipaq 211. VGA and 624 Mhz Marvell CPU, dual slots are all very applealing features. Not to mentone 2200 battery. As I am not using EVDO that much, I am thinking of BT tethering the IPAQ with a Sprint phone. Can anyone recommend the best EVDO Sprint phone for bt tethering? Thank you.

Re: Why one might sell their Mogul for a "normal" phone.
Ever since my plunge from clam & banana styled multimedia phones into the world of data & voice capable devices, I have never looked back and have continued forth with much enthusiasm and defeat. But my 6800 has become an integral part of my world and considering the resources at it's disposal, there is no equal.
Like building a race car, many enhancing options work great but might not play well with other parts and it takes trial & error combinations to find the ideal balance of work, networking & pleasure applications that your device will deliver consistently together. Even I have had to sacrifice apps (like SPB Pocket Plus Today Plugin) in order to get my device to function in harmony with the other 22 apps installed. It is a small price. It may even be a healthy choice to re-implement yourself into a common voice device for it will allow you to refresh your thoughts and ideas on PDA devices. Afterall the technology is moving fast and new ideas, innovation as well as resolutions to current issues are discovered every day. maybe with this in mind some day when you return you will have a newfound resolve for data devices... |
