Re: nueMMS - beta test sprint workaround
Cool app...but I think there is a problem. I am not sure if its an app issue or an Exchange 2003 issue. I tested sending an MMS to myself via the Sprint option not PktPix.
I can send MMS via a standard SMTP relay. I can not send MMS via my Direct Push Exchange Account. However, if I go into Outlook 2007 on my PC and resend the message from my sent items the MMS message works. I'm up and operational with my SMTP account but wanted to point this out in case anyone else runs into it. |

Re: nueMMS - beta test sprint workaround
Another thing I have noticed...when sending with nueMMS the reply to address is from your email account. Testing from my phone I am prompted to open a browser and view the pic. From the browser I can click on the reply link and the response will go back to my email account. When a Verizon or AT&T user responds I do not get the response as the picture comes directly into their txt msg box.
I am going to try and trick this app to use my phone#@pm.sprint.com as my reply to address by setting up another POP account on my phone and see if the responses come back to my txt msg inbox. If this works than it could be hardcoded into the nueMMS app. Will test this later as work is interfering with Mogul MMS play time just my .02 cents. |

Re: nueMMS - beta test sprint workaround
Yeah, that's a really good idea. Setting up a POP/IMAP account with the return address at #@pm.sprint.com.
If Sprint would allow POP or IMAP access to their pm email system, then we would have a real workaround for MMS. I don't think that is going to happen. You can access it on the web though, in case anybody cared. For pktpix: I know that they are supposed to forward the actual picture mail on to the carrier server, but I don't think they are doing this. It seems to just send a text message through the carrier with a link for a pktpix hosted image. I have been able to open this page, but for some phones/carriers the link isn't a hyperlink, so who is going to type it in on a browser? Plus, not everybody has internet. Is it possible that they will only forward small jpg's? Is 640x480 too large (even though pktpix says it isn't...)? It shouldn't be since that is the resolution pic my RAZR took. Also, I haven't thanks no2 for this. Thanks. You're awesome. |

Re: nueMMS - beta test sprint workaround
Okay
Well, I set up a new GMail account and set a few options. Unfortunately for reasons unknown to me, they aren't working. First I set it up so that the From field would show #@pm.sprint.com However, when sending a message to pm.sprint.com via phone, the reply still goes to GMail (IMAP seems to bypass the previous option) When sending a test message to another email account, reply is gmail on behalf of pm, and reply link is sprint pm. follow? When sending a test email from GMail (on PC) to Sprint PM directly (on behalf of sprint), the email doesn't even show up. Forwarding also does not work via GMail. Here is a quick question: If you have a normal cell with MMS, could you send sprint PM's to yourself? When I use the sprint picture mail web UI, it works fine. Update: It appears the Sprint blocks an email when the From address is the same as your sprint PM account. Unless, of course, you are actually sending it through Sprint. This means that forwarding at least works, as long as you have your email account set NOT to be FROM your sprint PM account. Therefore if somebody replies to your GMail account, it does show up as a text message. 2 Problems: If somebody replies through Sprint's UI like most phones do for sprint, it will try to display the whole message as a PM, meaning all the sprint graphics and such are included as hyperlinks on a single PM rather than an attachment on an email. Test it out and you'll see what I mean. This will be especially cumbersome for any Sprint WM users like us to PM eachother. Second problem is that you can't reply to yourself. Auto-Forwarding messages will carry the From: for their original senders, thus if you try to reply to your own PM sent via GMail, it will think that SprintPM is emailing SprintPM again, and block it. Again, I'm using Gmail for all this, so maybe other email system works differently. If it does, lemme know. Last edited by qbunnie; 03-14-2008 at 04:59 PM. |

Re: nueMMS - beta test sprint workaround
Can't you just set up forwarding on your POP account? That way when people reply to your email with attachment PM, probably with a pic of their own, it just gets forwarded to Sprint PM. Sprint PM thinks its from the person who sent it, and relays it to your cell.
The only time this doesn't work is if you want to reply to yourself. |
