When there is no phone connected, open active sync and remove all partnerships for your phone, then when you connect it will redo the initial sync config and setup a new partnership. usually gets rid of my issues where it stalls during sync like that. gl
I didn't tthink to try this...and I did... all I have to say is I effing hate Activesync! The only reason I use it is for my contacts. I'm going to go ahead and break down and start using PIM backup. Thanks for the input tho fellas

If that doesn't work, open your pc's task manager and look in the processes tab for:

wcescomm.exe
rapimgr.exe

and end both. Then connect your PPC, and manually open Activesync from pc start menu.
Ok...so I've been having ActiveSynch issues on my work computer since I got the phone. AS always works on first install and then it won't start again on any subsequent boot-up and it won't start manually. You can click on it from Start and you'll see the hour glass icon for a few seconds and then it just stops.

I just tried your suggestion and stopped the two processes. Magically, AS started. I was going to name my first child after you. Then I attached my phone and I got an error window that said, "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in MSFT AS Help on your desktop computer."

Any idea why I'm getting this? And will I have to manually shut down those two processes EVERY TIME I want to sync? What is the conflict that's causing the problem in the first place?

Thanx!

Shawn

Sounds like the same problem I'm having now. Funny thing is that I had this issue before the "process end" find. I'm kinda stumped at this point.

And no you don't have to keep ending them you can stop them before you boot up. Goto Start>Run, type msconfig and goto "Startup" tab and uncheck wcescomm.

Activesync as a whole is a headache... but Ill try to figure this out and report back.

Re: Active Sync

Okay So this is what I've come up with so far. Keep in mind I have yet to try these. I will tonight when I get home from work.

I think One thing to keep in mind is the RAPIMGR.exe I have a feeling this is where the problems are steming from. But here ya go:

close ActiveSync window go to the tray in the lower right hand corner and double click on the ActiveSync
icon in the tray. The window reappears, only now it says "Connecting", then it goes to "Looking for Changes" and then "Synchronizing" and it syncs successfully.

-Open Windows Firewall from the Control Panel
-Make sure the 'Don't Allow Exceptions' box is NOT checked
-Click the 'Exceptions' tab
-Check the box next to 'UPnP Framework'
-'OK'

try running Outlooks SCANPST utility on your Outlook.pst file where your calendar, contacts, and notes are stored.

To run SCANPST, you'll need to find the utility program first and then locate where your Outlook.PST file is. I find these files on my PC in the following places:

SCANPST.exe is in the \Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 subdirectory and
Outlook.pst file is in C:\Documents and Settings\Julie\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

You can also search for these files. If you search for the files, be sure you use the advanced search features and select the options to search hidden files and system files.

When you locate your Outlook.PST file, write down the full path to this file.
Then close Outlook Select SCANPST.exe This will bring up a dialogue box

Input the entire path and pst file name in the dialogue box.
Press the Start button

You may need to run SCANPST a few times to allow the utility to work through all the issues in your PST file.

Ok... I did the first part with the Windows Firewall. I couldn't do the second part since I couldn't find my OUTLOOK.pst file. I'm on an exchange server at work so I don't know if that's the reason.

Any luck on your end?
