Yes, the new rom is more aggressive with caching, which is an improvement. I see the low numbers for free memory, but I have yet to have any problems from not having enough memory or anything, and I run quite a few things simultaneously at times (WM, last.fm mobile, PIE, poutlook, GPS, etc).

Ohhh yeah without a doubt, I personally have never had problems with running out of memory. I've ran personal benchmarks many times with all the apps I would normally use open; combinations of applications and scenarios that probably would never happen in real-life and I still never had any performance issues.

If this is your first pda phone then stick with the stock rom for now cause you will fck it up. Once your comfortable then try a custom rom.

True= The more you install the bigger your leak will be. These phones are not meant to be normal PCs. Installing a 1000 apps will just bog it down. Considering the insane bad quality of the coding we are dealing with atm I would keep it down to bare needs.

Well I did a few more rom updates and reinstalls of everything and I think I found the problem... HTC Home plugin was eating memory for some reason on the new dcd rom... I could just set the device on the table with the screen off and an hour later go back in and see less memory available...

I ditched it and am trying sbp plugin now to see if I still have problems...

btw no2chem's rom didn't seem as good as dcd's for verizon... dcd's had 3-4mb extra after install and runs a LOT faster... no2chem's had a bunch of weird warnings and things when installing apps and was locking up for some apps i tried installing so I just went back to dcd's for now

the more I think about it the more I don't think I want to lose the wifi by switching to touch... it's really nice to connect to network shares and move files easily... also my evdo is flakey for some reason! I think it's the new radio.. going to have to read up more on that.

I see how everyone is always talking about the 6800 not having enough ram, but mine has 20.30MB Free of Program out of 50 and in Storage it has 115.83 out of 156.96 Free, Mine doesn't run lightning fast but I've never had my ram drop below 100mb free, with the stock rom or the DCD rom, and I had to switch back from WM6.1 with GPS because of the radio, it just wouldn't hold a connection with EV and I need a consistent data connection, which the stock radio has provided.

im curious how anyone would get 20mb regular??? im running dcd's and it's the most efficient rom ive seen so far but if you run any today screen it pretty much drops it below that 20mb mark all the time...

seems once it gets down to about 12mb it really starts to crawl.. at that point i wipe everything in memory because i cant take it... lol

Forget WM 6.1.
At least wait until it becomes an official release..

DCD's 1.6.10(2.17) ROM with 1.40 radio is much faster and stable than any of WM 6.1 ROMS I have tried..
Problem with Data connection alone was a deal breaker for me.
I mean.. what good is the PPC without the solid DATA connection?
I also like the amount of free RAM I get with the DCD 1.6.10 ROM.
I have loaded dozens of applications on my device already, and I still get somewhere between 24-25MB of free RAM at boot up, and 21-22MB of free RAM after heavy usage.

My quest for the ultimate ROM is finally over.. for now.
