Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

"Ok this thread needs a bit of updating. There is a cab file floating around that unlocks GPS for the latest Alltel ROM."

That's correct, smart device freeware site, (a personal friend of mine) has it posted. We both have the 6800 (titan) and were a little afraid of just flashing the rom. He came up with 4 cab files that were different from our original rom, from the newer gps enabled flash, so he created these 4 that make only those changes needed to enable gps without flashing. I'm not sure of the rules here on posting links, so just search for smartdevicefreeware, and you should find it.

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

yea, there may be a way to get it to work, but usually unsigned issues are rom related.

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

there's always something.... I just don't know what to tell you.. search for anything related to being unsigned. I think there is a hack out there. I've never really had to deal with it very much.

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

I haven't read every post in the topic, but I noticed a lot of people are talking about the GPS being standalone or not. I think it is both (hybrid) on the Sprint Mogul....

Reason being is I've just gotten my mogul (Jul. 14th) and soon after getting it (within hours) I flashed it to the leaked Sprint WM6.1 then to the final (though no differences) on its release...

I've been roaming in Canada for almost a month and to keep costs down I've been operating with DATA ROAM guard ON (meaning my phone can't make a data connection) and GPS still gets a fix just fine. I've also tried it flight mode and I still get a fix without a problem. But, If I try it with the data connection allowed to connect it will make a data connection when doing GPS searches.

So the GPS can work on its own or with tower assistance.

Hopefully that helps clear out some mystery...

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

Yeah... it works in North America. It works if you have any kind of CDMA service, even if the radio is in flight mode. It does not work elsewhere.
Canada... it's the 51st state.

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

I can't say it will work outside of the US or Canada since I'm not going to be leaving the US or Canada in the foreseeable future, but that doesn't make much sense to me.

How could the GPS work in flight mode (which should mean the CDMA radio is off so it can't tell if I am in a CDMA area or not), but only if I'm in an area with CDMA coverage? Since GPS is sat dependent and the phone can do that with all radios off it should work anywhere I can pick up a sat...

Unless I understand the technology or flight mode wrong?

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

Anyone successfully setup Tomtom 6 to sprint mogul?
I am able to get tomtom 6 to run and working properly on my phone, but there is no sound. I already unmuted as it starts out as muted.

Several of us have tried to get a lock out of the country. I have tried it in Europe. While (using a diagnostic app) it will briefly see sats, it fails for some unknown reason to establish a lock.

My personal belief (with no evidence to support it one way or another) is that the driver is optimized to lock quickly. As such it is limiting the allowable band of coordinates to North America to reduce the search area when doing a cold start. To double check your locking in flight mode, I suggest trying the following. Put the phone into flight mode, then do a full power down (hold the power button 5 seconds). Then turn it back on, and without enabling the radio, try to get a lock. Ideally, you'd leave it off all night to completely ensure the GPS state is cold as it may store it's last start sufficiently to recover.
