Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

I just had a quick question...I have the HTC 6800 from US Cellular. Can I still use the links and recommendations you have for Sprint or Alltel phones?

yes, the only thing that would be different is the agps (pde) server address, but for standalone mode you should be good to go.

What is to keep us from using aGPS settings from other services? For example using Alltel Ip setting on Verizon? Or Sprint?

actually there's routers and firewalls to stop you. some are internal netword adresses, but I don't know, as I've never had to mess with it. feel free to try, I'm just saying that should be the only thing to worry about with uscc. (only verizon is )

Tell me about it. I am asking because VZW has problems with their aGPS noted by a ton of people not getting instant locks anymore, or they have found a way to lock out everyone not accessing through VZnav suckware.

I am trying Alltel first cause of the merger, then Sprint. Just curious since you seemed to know. Thanks man.

Do you have a definative way to tell if aGPS is helping or that it is doing what it should?

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

you'll get a feel for the difference.. stand alone will take a bit to get a lock if it's been a while since last lock, but it's faster at re-acquiring after wakeup than agps. also in the basement you'll be able to see the difference between them.
apps; visualgpsce also check out cameraware buddy w/ navizon

btw, htc quickgps will help with either gps or agps

Re: Official Titan built-in GPS Thread

I think Alltel (Verizon) has locked out the standalone gps capability. I have the 6.1 ROM and have all the gps settings set like are suggested in these forums, but both Garmin XT and Google Maps are unable to locate a GPS device on my 6800. I don't have a data plan--can't afford it. From what I have read here Garmin (& Tom Tom) should work without a data plan.

Do I have a broken Mogul? I installed the GPS Viewer, but when I select Com4 and Select "Open GPS" I get an error that says "Can not open COMPORT."

OR, has Alltel/Verizon shut me out of the game unless I pay their outrageous data plan fees?????!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of variables here my friend. You must either have a custom rom with aGPS hacked by QPST and registry, or have valhalla cab (search and read if you don't know). Next you must have enabled location in phone settings and set GPS hardware correctly in settings.

If you have all of that done as the stickies and wikis show, you shouldn't get that error unless you have some hardware issues. I have had a 1 1/2 dozen Titans and never seen that or heard of it happening in any forum. It is more likely you don't have it set up right.

What rom are you running? Are you a Alltel or Verizon user?
