I was thinking the same thing you were, all the claimed problems in the world aren't going to do any good unless they are backed up with concise data and conditions, which obviously takes more effort than simply saying "it doesn't work!". The only way ROM 2.17 got done when is when a couple of users gathered up all the issues and spelled them out concisely and how to reproduce them under a given situation. They then posted this info on the Sprint forums where it was relayed back to Sprint product development.

I've not had any problems with the new ROM... until I started to load third party apps on it, so it's my responsibility to troubleshoot that. But for folks that are experiencing real issues with clean ROMs, you need to report it to Sprint directly so they can get working on it. Post your issue with the exact steps to reproduce it here:

http://forums.buzzaboutwireless.com/...cending&page=1

If everyone does this then Sprint will just have more info to hopefully get one step closer to "getting it right" the next ROM.
The bottom line is that we are Americans and we are not use to Manufactures selling consumers BS products and then after they get the money, oh well we promise to fix it later. Thats complete BS. Then after they come forward with the promise fixit, they realize that they sliped into idiot mode again, and encouraged us to flash back to the old ROm. You do good/proactive liberals kill me. Sprint, HTC, Alltel, and all others should get it right before the product hits the Market period. It's my prediction that Sprint and HTC will trake a huge financial hit over their recent product flaws.

Wow... you've independently determined from my suggestion that I'm a "do good/proactive liberal". You must have infinite wisdom and insight into the human condition </sarcasm>

Nowhere in my original post did I condone Sprint's actions in releasing a defective product, but somehow you concluded that.

Sorry to disappoint you, but my suggestion was simply made from 25+ years as a hardware and software engineer, and experience for what it takes to debug and fix a product. More information is always better. The fatal flaw Sprint made was in its QA process and not including enough (if any) real-world users in that process.

Have a nice day

Gentlemen, with all due respect to your individual perspectives you both will agree this is not the thread to debate perfect world/ideal situation conditions. We can start another thread to discuss the philosophy of market expectations and manufacturing abilities.

Anyone who wants to help develop a formal troubleshooting/reporting process which will benefit everyone feel free to PM me with your feedback in regards to developing such a process. We can then start to clearly identify issues and attempt to resolve those which are 3rd party app related.

Imagine what we can do with a clearer idea of the root issues......maybe even get them addressed! At a minimum we can internally contribute to resolutions from internal programmers and custom ROMs.

Since I'll be developing PPC apps, I'm going to need a QA bug report form... I'll send you a first draft outline in about 10 minutes.

Exclamation My Problems

I just want to say that I love the idea of listing problems so that we will help fix the issue either internally or extenally. I also would like to state that this ROM is a nice step foward(from 2.09 and 2.16). However, I still have a couple of issues:

1. Bluetooth sounds better, not quite what i experienced in 2.16 + Touch BT (sfaure03?). It also does not autoconnect with my BT headset or my Premier 980BT. I have to turn BT off and back on for it to autopair. My Moto Q and Sanyo Katana(read free phone) did this feature quite well. I haven't had any other PPC's other than a Mogul(I had a Treo 700WX; but we all know that doesn't compare), so take that how you will.
2. Memory Management - Some people here claim better memory management, but I bootup starting at ~17mb. I used to boot up from 21-23 with 2.16 and idle around 20. I could open every program I had and close it with x-button and oxios and reclaim to around 19-20mb with 2.16. Now with that being said, my phone runs quite smooth. I am ok with the performance, but the numbers do make me thiink.
3. With the new Radio I don't have lockups anymore(I switch between weak sprint and weak roaming all day at my desk). However, I don't see the triangle when I know I am roaming. Is this a huge problem? No. Does it need to be fixed? Yes, it does.
4. My outlook email from work(exchange server 03) sometimes takes a minute to open...sometimes you have to close outlook and re-open it for you to be able to view the email. I also noticed that with this ROM it won't let me sync HTML based emails(the option in activesync is grayed out). So all emails i recieve are text only.
5. Sometimes after Sliding out my keyboard and sliding it in. the bottom half of the screen displays the old way(still sideways) and only the top half is usable. This is easily fixable by hitting the start button and hitting today. But something that is not supposed to happen. I also think the transfer of picture from portait to landscape should be faster and smoother.
6. Sometimes internet explorer locks up. I have just noticed this. It doesn't respond and run like it used to in 2.16

This is with 2.17 ROM and 1.47.01. Basically, new OEM Sprint ROM; hard reset after flash and without customizations .

I have the usual suspects installed:

HTC Home + emuntz customizer
xbutton 2.0
oxios memory manager
Sprint TV
Office 6.1(It had the same email prob before this install; even on 2.16)
PPC geeks MMS
PPC 6800 Hacks
Flashlight 2.0
PHM Regedit
TouchFlo cube
Jet BT extensions
Touch Camera Album and Cube
Cingular Music ID
Lordsmiths Battery Level
6700 Stats
Effcomm

Like I stated before, good step in the right direction. However, could still use some tweaks to be considered a non-beta ROM. Take note Sprint/HTC/Microsoft.

So the obvious question is....

How was it prior to the 3rd party apps?

in order to establish a control as to what real issues may be present all initial testing needs to be done bone stock, without 3rd party apps. As you know the minute we add anything non oem it changes the variables and this is about the core ROM performance after all.

Great breakdown, excellent example for other posters.

How did you get your Mogul to pair with your 980BT? I have the same unit and it will not pair running 2.09. The Mogul sees the 980BT, but I can't get past the passkey stage. I enter 0000 and no go. With bluetooth on and the Mogul being visable, the radio will not find it during a scan either. I've reset the radio many times. I even entered another four digit code. It just will not pair. It pairs instantly with my older Samsung a940. Did yours pair with 2.09, or did 2.16/2.17 fix a compatibility problem?

i'm not sure about you, but I think it may just be an issue with your headset. I have a Motorola H700, and my mogul works fine when i turn the headset off and on, and it picks it up right away, and disconnects right away when i switch it on and off, i'm not sure if it's because I am lucky, or if there is a headset issue. i dont think it's a general problem though, since mine works fine.

I must apologize

So....I am kinda new to phone flashing and am a little scared to try lots of the stuff that is done here. I was on the chat one night and discovered my problem with the new ROM.

HTC's flashing instructions don't tell you to do a hard reset after you finish updating the ROM. I did that and now my phone works beautifully. I guess that is what I get for being so literal with instructions

Anyway, just wanted to say that my Radio and software work great now and I was wrong about my issues earlier. I am just a n00b.

Cheers

Donna

You need Exchange server 2007 for HTML email to work... This has nothing to do with the new ROM.
