I got the best story.
In 2001 when I got the XDA from T-Mob. I went into a radioshak to see if I could order accessories for the phone. There was a guy and gal at the counter. I asked "Do you have any accessories for the XDA?" RS Rep "What's an XDA?" Me "It's a smartphone" RS guy and gallaughed out loud at my face. "Sir we don't carry dumb phones" I smiled despite their rudeness. I pulled out my XDA and showed them some clips fromMS Sync n Go. I think it was a clip of the today show. I heard the guy mutter "Oh Sh*t". I walked out the store with a smirk. They were totally stoked. Back then watching TV on a phone was unheard of.

Sampson, thats great! I'm totally jealous... I was telling folks in the chat room after this happened that I only wish I had the time to build a popular custom ROM like I originally wanted before dcd and yourself released "clean" ones.
Then I could peek over and say, "oh hey, I made that".  Well, its good to know that this stuff is considered useful out there in the big ol scary "real" world!

I just tell them it's a Mogul - one of Sprint's newer smartphones. They will usually ask who makes it (most ppl I know with 8x25's don't know that HTC makes it) I just tell them HTC and say that they make the majority of smartphones for the major carriers nowadays. I ask them what carrier they have, list the phones, let them peck for a few seconds (I ride the bus/lightrail to work and back) and then go on my way.
Consider yourself lucky you never owned a Hitachi g1000 like I did. 9 times out of 10, if I pull it out in a new crowd of people, someone is going to make a comment about it. When I tell them I use it as a remote control for the TV (in addition to the other things it does), or monitor my apartment via webcam, that's when they usually crap themselves.
