Re: DROID on the 6th... whos staying WinMo?

To those who love the Droid after having it a couple of days, please come back here later and tell us about how you like it after you really come to know it. If you decide to return it and go back to your Imagio or other WinMo device, let us know, and why you don't like it. We'll respect your honesty and gain from your experience.

I guess I'll be the first to chime in. First off, I like the imagio so much, I am keeping it and using it on another line. Secondlly the Droid is absolutelly wonderful! Just a background the WinMo devices I have had are Cingular 8125, Samsung I760, xv6800, Moto q, Motoq9c, omnia, touch pro, and imagio....I may have forgotten 1 in there somewhere....lol I also have had Blackberrys Storm, and tour. I liked the customability of WinMo, and the stability (for the most part) of Blackberry's. The Droid is the best of both worlds! I have been running the droid HARD ever since i got it! IT HAS NEVER LAGGED! It is the most responsive phone I have had! Even better then my Touch Pro with SSK roms, and much better than the Imagio (wich will only get better with ROMS, kinda 1 reason i am holding onto it...) There are only 2 things I want from my Imagio, the software keyboard, and (lol) the lock software key at the bottom right of the Imagio screen. You have to hit the power button like all other WinMo phones to lock/unlock the phone. I got used to the convienent placement of the lock on the Imagio. Also I hear everyone talking bad about the hardware keyboard on the droid, but INMHO it is very good! The buttons are almost the same as the ones on my Touch Pro! If anyone here has used the Touch Pro keyboard, you have a good comparison, of course the Touch pro does have a 5th row of keys, but I am talking about the physical buttons. The screen is night and day difference compared to the Imagio, about the best I've seen. I'd give the call quality on the imagio about a 7, and the drois an 8 or 9, even through bluetooth! The number of good free apps available for the Droid through there marketplace is amazing! WinMo marketplace dosn't compare here either! The new Google Navigation is FANTASTIC! VZnav is a babys toy compared to it! The speach recognition for the destination (and many other things) works flawless for me! And there is no monthlly fee! It is free! I got the car dock, and it is better than my PNA. The Droid will be replacing my PNA, I am giving it to my Father! The speaker on the Droid is Very Very good, and has great volume, without distortion! You know how we all watch memory like a hawk with WinMo, no need with Android 2.0, it prioritizes memory, by closing nonpriority programs if it needs memory. And just so everyone knows, just looking at the mhz of the processors between the 2 is not a apples to apples comparason. You would think that the Droids 550mhz processor wouldn't be that much better than the Imagio's 528mhz processor. NOT SO!!!!!! Here is a quote about the 2 processors.

" The A8 processor is much faster than the ARM11. It's like comparing a pentium 4 CPU to a new Core i7. or if you use a mac, comparing an old powerPC mac to a newer intel mac. The CPU in the droid can just do so much more per cycle (Hertz) that just comparing the the frequencies is not an accurate picture, also the chipset has a seperate GPU which should handle all the rendering, freeing up the CPU cycles for even more other processing."

Thats why the Droid is so much faster! Any questions guys, let me know!

Have the DROID for more than a day now. Had the Samsung i700, i730, i760, HTC xv6800, Touch Pro, and I just returned my Imagio for the DROID. Absolutely no regrets, best smartphone I've ever had.

PROS vs Imagio:
Its FAST. Noticably faster than the Imagio which was the fastest WM phone I've ever had.
Customizable 3 screen desktop is pretty cool. Unlike Touch Flo 3D which isn't.
Browser is awesome and blows away Opera and Opera Mini, not to mention IE.
I forgot how nice it was to have a keyboard. The keys are tight, but very easy to get used to. It was an adjustment on the Imagio, but compared to the i760 and the Touch Pro, its equivalent.
Speakers are really LOUD.

OBVIOUS PROS stated elswehere:
Voice activated Google search is awesome
Voice activated Google Maps with turn by turn is awesome and FREE
16GB MicroSD included FREE

EQUAL:
display is good but Imagio was good too.
size is the same as Imagio. I don't notice the weight difference.

CONS:
No dedicated call/end buttons
I have to buy android software to replace my WM software
No hacking that I know of
No cool motion graphics like the weather or 3D views of music, etc like Touch Flo
Inability to install applications on the SD card is a bummer, but installed most of my apps on the main memory for speed anyway on the Imagio
Email notifications not as clear.

DROID was so good, I returned my Imagio, I upgraded my wife's Touch Pro, and I upgraded my brother's i760. Out of the box, the experience is leagues better than any WM phone I've ever owned. Google did an awesome job designing this phone. Maybe not as compulsive as Steve Jobs iphone in certain areas like multi touch, but for verizon, the best by far.

Re: DROID on the 6th... whos staying WinMo?

I have made two trips to the Verizon store. My 30 days is up Friday on the Imagio. The Eris has similar interface as the imagio. Seems pretty fast. The Droid seems extremely fast. However, on my second visit I played with a Droid that had been used alot and it seemed much slower than my first visit. There are also lots of features that Google imbedded that make it work well. The browser is awesome. The only drawbacks seem to be lack of integration with Outlook and other Office products. I know there are aftermarket programs, but especially with the contacts, that destroys the usefullness for me. The Verizon rep( I know, some are clueless) basically stated that the Droid is really just a souped up entertainment phone and most of the apps will be entertainment not business. So if you use for work, either Windows or Blackberry.

I am keeping the Imagio. However, a cleaner rom or maybe a proper version of the Chrome browser might make all the difference.

Good feedback, after you have had it a week let us know if you are still as in love, sounds like you will be. I am especially surprised about the size as the dimensions and weight are closer to the TP2 and the Imagio which is one of the reasons I hadn't even gone to a store to check one out yet. I agree the inability to install to the SD probably isn't a big deal for the majority of users, I never bothered to do it.

That's what I get for trusting specs from one of those "first hands ons" checking Verizon's site I see the Imagio and Droid are basically the same thickness and about 0.76 oz heavier, but still lighter than the TP2. Maybe I'll go play with one and check it out. I have a feeling some of the Exchange/ActiveSync issues out there will keep me from seriously considering one though until I see more feedback how well ti works. There is post with a bug list on the DROID forum the details them.
