The reason why its only just now giving you problems is because the battery hadn't gone bad yet when you got it, rather it had merely reached its "golden years." In other words, if you are in fact affected by the "bad batteries" when you got your phone, the batter was already at 60-70% of it's effective life. Remember, no matter how much or little you use these batteries, they have a maximum useful life of 24-36 months. Period. So long as it hasn't reached that stage yet, it will still perform well enough so that you wouldn't notice since you have no "perfect, new battery" reference. Does that make a bit more sense?
In any case, if you've done all of the things listed on this thread, all you can do is go to the VZW and get a new battery. It will likely (or should be) free. Give that a try, and if that doesn't give you the time you need, you'll simply have to seek out a spare or extended capacity battery.
