Try using the flashrec method, it’s extremely easy and you don’t need administrative rights so you can do it from your job. Follow his steps and you should be fine. The only difference is instead of flashing modoca’s rom flash fresh’s .4

Do you have to have a custom rom when you root your phone?? I just want to root my phone for apps to sd, no other reason.

athlet1c made a good point. Why wait for the OTA update when you can root, then flash a rom that already has the update installed? No waiting for the update, plus your phone is rooted and you have a Fresh rom. Win-Win

I was trying to use the instructions on www.theunlockr.com to root my phone and I could never get my XP computer to recognize the ADB files. I'm using a computer from work and I don't had admin rights, so I'm wondering if that could be my problem. I never can get the phone serial number to show in the cmd prompt screen.
Use the video method that athlet1c posted. Most of this actually comes from the SD card, so no permissions needed. It works, but you will need to flash to Fresh after its all done and you have backed up with nandroid. Fresh .4 has the update and it is working great.

No you don't. You can just root. I suggest a rom update because it makes the phone run better overall. I suggest NOT using A2SD2 (apps 2 sd 2) by the way, it is a hassle and only has created problems for people using it that I have seen. I didn't like it when I was running it. It is a great app, but it doesn't work as well as apps on sd card on winmo.

Re: No firmware update available

The point I was trying to make to the thread starter is by using the flashedrec method u don't have to root your phone, you can just flash to a custom rom that has root abilities. That's what I did, and my phone works great. I can use all the apps that require root ability. It's less complicated, IMO. Most of the problems everyone one is experiencing I'm not. My advice to him would be to just try it. its less likely of him messing something up. Everybody's not comfortable with rooting by typing in commands , Including myself. This was just seems a whole lot easier, again, In my opinion.

Re: No firmware update available

Mommasboy and thecounty are both right and since I'm beta testing Rome I'm always doing fresh installs to root and Install my Rom the flash rec method is user friendly for both skilled and novice
