If you already rooted your hero
Continue on with the "app removal" thread over at xda... pay particular attention to how the phone acts after you remove nfl and nascar sprint apps.. i've noticed the phone not only responds faster, but it loads other programs faster, reboots faster... and those are the only 2 apps i chose to remove so far... i think the sprint bloatware holds back every phone its thrown on.. so give it a try and post your results... for those that do not know what thread im talking about, try this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581635

Re: If you already rooted your hero
Ok, this is my issue. How long am I suppose to hold down the menu and power button? Nothing happens when I do this. It puts it into a "Safe mode" if I hold them down all the way to full boot up.

Not sure if it faster, but at least NFL and nascar aren't tormenting me anymore. I also removed a bunch sounds from /system/media/audio I would like to remove the Sprint animation but I need to read more about that xml file that calls it. |

Re: If you already rooted your hero
Ok I THINK I have successfully rooted my phone but I'm not sure. I want to try to remove some of the Sprint bloatware but cant get figure out how to back up my current stuff first. I'm trying to use nandroid but cant quite figure it out. I followed the directions on XDA and am stuck at the step where the screen is supposed to turn green and give the option to use nandroid. Idk what I'm doing wrong. I noticed that the directions mention "engineering/dev spl bootloader [1] (or has a dev phone) + a recovery image with busybox and adbd running as root [2] to make full system backups. " on your device but it specifies for teh G1. So I guess I'm not sure if I need that stuff or not.
Anyone able to follow my rant and help I'd really appreciate it! btw: Here is the xda thread i referenced: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830 |

The easiest way to find out if you rooted is to download that screen shot app in the market called 'picme' if that app works and you can connect, congratulations. Now as far as the recovery image and nandroid goes, follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 it takes care of all that. |
