I'm doubting slightly it though, they said the same about the Sprint Hero being the 1st Android 1.6 device before everyone else & look here .

Re: Sprint Hero and Donut 1.6

"open source" is a joke. Google is just blowing smoke when they say that. If you have been following android for the last couple of months you'll know what im talking about. Gooogle started sending "stop and decist" letters to people at xda who were making custom ROMs. They can still distribute their custom ROMs but they cannot include any "google applications" (gmail, Google talk, Google maps, etc) because those applications are closed source and distributing them violates copywrite laws. microsoft has never done this..microsoft more open than Google, who would have guessed

Re: Sprint Hero and Donut 1.6

Your friend was confused, there is a usb update available, for pre release devices given to reps. It is not an upgrade to 1.6 it is just bug fixes for the devices HTC gave to reps during training sessions. It is performed only at ASC centers with future dial and ICSS. It won't do anything for any of the devices purchased from retail stores they are already running the most recent software.

Google is worse then MS ever was. if you look at what google did they got the help of the open source community to help them develop a custom OS and applications the good stuff they turned into profit centers (nothing wrong with that if google invested there own money and time on there own) then when the OS got released they said ok now we took x amount of $$ so the OS really isnt opensource since we have some closed source apps tied into the the main OS. At least when you deal with MS, apple, and BB you know exactly what your getting. There is no reason why the complete OS could not be released for GSM and CDMA phones.

I was looking around other sites and it seems like the 1.6 update has actually turned out bad for most people! They are having freezing, force closing, and generally slow phone issues! Hope ours turns out better!

Re: Sprint Hero and Donut 1.6

With Sense UI on our phones, are we really going to notice that big of a difference in 1.6?

I think one of the biggest differences in 1.6 is all the different features you are supposed to be able to do in terms of Google searching with that cool little Google search tool we all have on the Hero...!
Added search feature to be able to search the whole phone, updating virtual privacy network, android market updates, battery usage indicator being modified.

Correct me if I am wrong.

The only thing that really interests me out of all this is the updates to the market cuz right now it kinda sucks. Shoot, i'll settle for an update to the online market site which REALLY REALLY sucks.

I could really care less about the searching feature, I can find pretty much anything on my phone rather quickly with sense.

And the battery meter should've been included on pretty much EVERY release from the start. I mean seriously, the guy who forgot to put that in should be lit on fire, THEN fired.

Oh and I HOPE that they fix the inability to use predictive text in search fields cuz if they don't, then that little "search" update will STILL be crap.
