Until someone at XDA gets root access to the new release... why wouldn't they? I'd think they would do it for those people who buy a new Hero or get a replacement for whatever reason.

Dont get me wrong it IS possible, but I wouldnt expect it anytime soon if I was you.

Has anyone downloaded the leaked official rom from last week tried this and noticed any difference?

I have not seen any difference (except that all of my apps are now in the marketplace...). Of course they were in the marketplace this morning with the leak as well.

Can someone kindly point me in the direction of the thread for the leaked official ROM, and I am assuming that the leaked version does not remove ROOT access like the official one does?

Do your facebook contacts sync up? I have the leak and none of my facebook contacts sync up at all. I'm downloading the official one now and I'm hoping it will fix that issue.
