Official 2.1 is here!

Both the Leak and the Official RUU break Root and there is no guarantee you'll get it back. They act the same because they are the same file.

What you want to do is head over to XDA and find the SprintUpdateZip file which has the root lock removed. It's basically all of the updated files from the RUU with out the locking features.

Any way you can post a link to this SprintUpdateZip? I tried finding it but am having trouble.

ok..the changes i've seen thus far in the LEGIT release over the leaked is..some of the widgets are diff...
youtube deff works alot better and in HQ
less lag on the dialer
the market place apps that weren't showing on the leak are now showing on the legit update
still don't know where to look for this live 3d wallpaper or anything
google talk works great
text to speech seems to be working
overall it's nearly the same..it just seems the legit version is a bit more polished and is RECOGNIZING everything

I'm giving it a few days before I make this assumption. I thought the same thing about the leak over 1.5 when I first installed it. By this morning, I was frustrated again.

They worked on the leak about 1.5 hours ago, right before I moved to the legit release.

I don't think they (HTC/Sprint) inlcuded live wallpapers in this release for the Hero. Just the HTC Weather one that appears every so often on the home screen. In the Droid phone to set the live wallpaper, you hold down the screen to get a menu to come up, and then choose wallpaper - the Hero doesn't have that option. Even the wallpaper tab in settings only allows us to change the picture.

See I really dont want to lose root access but I just have not been able to find a solution to my messed up facebook sync. I'm wondering if the new OFFICIAL rom will fix that or will I have this problem on any rom I use (2.1 because 1.5 work with no problem). It seems like I'm one of very few people who are having this problem.

For all the people freaking out, almost all of the popular roms have been updated with this releases framework, meaning you will have pretty much all the benefits of this official rom, but already customized. I am using Fresh's 2.1.1 Rom and its great.
