Ha, I hope to keep using it just for flash testing as my wife still has a diamond and I dont want to abandon the folks using my roms. BTW if apps cant be stored on the storage card, then what exactly does get stored on there beside pics and ringtones? Just wondering if 2gigs is enough

A lot of programs place their caches on the sdcard. After rooting, you can partition the sdcard and enable the apps to be stored there. Be prepared for culture shock; The way android handles app installation and management makes SENSE if you can believe it.

Re: Few questions before I buy a Hero

Just an update, I got my Hero in yesterday and i'm loving it! Anyone know a good alarm app thats reliable or how to make the screen go off when you answer a call? Just a couple things out of the box that I'm not 100% happy with.

Klaxon is the best alarm app IMHO. He came from WinMo like us.

Proximity is a good app for making the screen go off when its up to your face.

Sweet thanks! Now if I could just speed read through all this stuff about rooting, Flashing, kernals & pre-kitchens I'd be great, lol.

Get the pre-kitchen and use that to root. Its simple. Follow instructions. Then you can read through rom threads and pick your favorite. Gumbo is a great Kernel IMHO because it is a huge performance increase along with battery saver. I had SMS trouble, but I seem to be the only one? Its easy to learn, about the same as flashing wm from SD card, except no hard resets.

On androidcentral.com Ghbil has a downright sexy Android Developer faq. I covers everything from "what the hell is android?" to "How make stuff for it?". I'll post a link here at some point today.
