Few questions before I buy a Hero
I am a long time Diamond user/flasher. I even build and publish custom roms for the diamond, so going to the Hero would be. I have a few questions before I choose to go android all the way.
1. In general is it wirth it out of the box? Basically if I dont customize the hero or flash it or whatever then is it still better than the diamond or wm? 2. Can someone give me a brief overview of what "booting" is and what that does? Is it like unlocking it for flashing? 3. How does flashing Hero/Android compare to flashing diamond/WM |

2. Its actually called "rooting" and it is the equivalent of unlocking on the diamond. Allows you to remove sprint bloatware and flash custom roms as well as many other features. 3. Flashing on the Hero is great. For the most part, you dont have to hard reset every time you want to flash a new rom. Some recommend a wipe before flashing because of new kernels and such but if you just flash custom rom on top of another without wiping, guess what, you dont have to reinstall all of your APPS!! They are still installed. Sprint always gives a 30 day return period. Buy it, Try it and if you dont like it, Take it back, no harm no foul. |

One more question, Are there already 2.1 custom ROMs to flash to? I'll be getting the Hero from Cellular South and I believe it's on 1.5 or 1.6 and knowing them it'll be forever before they offer a 2.1 upgrade. |

Imagine having a phone that never locks up. That doesn't get hot enough to cook an egg. That has a browser 10 times better then opera. That has real email NO FREAKING SIDE SCROLLING. That has a truly finger friendly screen. I use my Touch Pro now and then to keep up with things in the WM world and it just feels like I'm using it with swollen thumbs. I do sometimes miss the thrill of cooking flashing and relentless tweaks. But you still do all this with the hero, the thing is you do really have to for an enjoyable experience. |

I ordered it online this afternoon. It should be here by Monday. I actually went to the store but Cell South wanted to make me turn in my Diamond in order to upgrade!:protest: So I politely said that they were crazy if they thought I was just going to GIVE them a phone I paid $400 for only a year ago. For whatever reason ordering online and shipping to your house doesnt require a phone trade. |
Re: Few questions before I buy a Hero
You made the right decision. Prepare for your Diamond to be holding documents on a table for the rest of its existence.
