Running TTG 0.1.6, with the Gumbo kernel, with setCPU, and my Hero is BLAZING fast! I also have emerica's port of the darkstar theme(screens below) I didn't really expect much of an increase in speed and performance, but quite frankly I am blown away. Just thought i'd even out the forums a bit with some positivity I encourage everyone to do a nandroid backup and try this setup out or try your own combination. But definitely check out the Gumbo kernel, just flash it on top of your current rom, and you will immediately notice a difference. Add setCPU for even more of a kick. THE HERO OWNS!

I'd like to know how you're happy with this darkstar theme. It caused me a bunch of problems. Force closes, strange symbols under my icons and inability to remove without flashing a new Rom.

Yeah I'm really enjoying my rom :P with the GCK. I think the memkiller is bit overly agressive but I'm still testing it out. Just downloaded SetCPU so keep my eye on battery life.

I was in your exact situation. I came from a Touch Pro and I flashed that turd constantly. When I got the Hero phone it worked so much better for me (not a phone comparison or review!) that I didn't think it was necessary which just fueled my reluctance to dive into this. Eventually after following these threads for a while and seeing some really cool s*** I decided I'd root the phone first and hold there for a few weeks. I didn't last a few weeks...I was pumping ROMs into this phone every night.

Once you root the phone and flash RA's recovery the worst part is done. You realize that you can restore at will so there's pretty much no risk unless you fail to read first.

Ditto to what fullgrown said. My Hero is 100 times better now!

Wow really? I guess i'm lucky, because i've been using this theme since before I started this thread, and it's been nothing but amazing for me. No force closes, no symbols, nothing.

Wow, you're not having any trouble with the font and text blocks? Hmm, that was the only problem I had. You are indeed lucky. heh

edit: heh that page was kind of cluttered and either and missed it. thanks.

edit: now looking at the exact numbers in MB of the configuration in each file I think the less aggressive kernel will not be aggressive enough. heh. onto my own custom version again.
