Smile Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

Here's my Android experience coming from a TP that was flashed to every rom out there..

Very stable, Many free apps, Great battery life, Keyboard and predictive text work very well for me considering I thought I was going to miss a hardware keyboard, the size it great, nandroid is such a great tool to have, the ability to flash a rom without hard resetting is sweet.. I could probably go on and on..lol

I always keep an open mind so I may go back to WM in the future but for now I'm enjoying Android!

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

The only two things I miss about winmo:

1. Divx playback ability. Currently, Android doesn't support any video codecs other than Mp4 and 3gp. Nobody seems to know when that'll change. I have about 1000 Divx videos available to me, so this is a pain in my butt to have to convert to mp4 to watch them on my android phone.

2. Lack of a hardware keyboard. I've done ok with the virtual kb, but I'd really like a hardware board. I'd love for sprint to get a quality android phone with a KB (no, the moment doesn't fit the bill)..

If these two things are important to you, I'd hold off for a bit. Otherwise, take the plunge.

FWIW, I'm a former dedicated Winmo user. I came from a TP, and had a mogul and ppc6700 before that.

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

Good thread. I am also thinking of switching to android for my next upgrade. What are the active sites/forums for android (ROMs, software, etc.)? I haven't really looked other than some of the forums at xda.

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

I switched from the TP2 to the Samsung Moment... Only because of the slide out qwerty... once you go slide out you'll never go back!

I dumped WinMo for Android and like it MUCH better...
Here's my reason

Ahhhh, thanks a ton!

Now I just have to decide if I want to buy or wait for the development community. Supposedly a few upcoming phones will have DIVX compatibility built in...

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

To be honest I got so fed up with how laggy WM is went to Android.

Let me just say this after seeing how an OS can actually be snappy, I realized that the iPhone is really the fastest and Most stable. I dropped WM and I will be dropping Android in June for the new iPhone!

I have tried all the workarounds and fixes to get my Hero to sync with Outlook but absolutely nothing works! I had to resort to exporting as a csv file to gmail and loading them that way, but that does nothing for syncing when I add contacts on the phone while I am out and I am still sol on the calendar.

@VulcanGrey, I still have my Simply Everything plan, no changes required. They will try and talk people out of them if they can.
The Simply Everything plan is compatible. I had Family plan with Power Vision data and 1000 text, which was not compatible.

I got outlook (exchange) sync working just fine. I have my work email, contacts, and calendar synced. I also have my gmail/google contacts and calendar and yahoo on the phone.
