Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

IMHO, Id do it. If you do then the droid might be the best choice since you wont go through 'keyboard withdrawal' Android has matured to a very stable and able contender and IMO its like a faster, more finger friendly version of winmo. I have not find anything that winmo did that Android did not, its just as customizeable, hackable, tons and tons of apps, faster, smoother, etc.

Im not taking anything away from winmo but 6.5 is behind the times so there are way better alternatives till WM7 hits.

my money is on WebOS though....

The battery life is retarded awesome, the phone does EVERYTHiNG, and Android is better than windows mobile and Windows xp.

Hero requires the new Everything plans, you will not be able to keep the SERO!

I have a family plan with powervision data, and I am not allowed to keep my plan when I activate the Hero tonight.

They did say I could switch without entering a 2year contract since I am out of contract, and I won the hero in a contest (not using my upgrade discount on a subsidized phone).

I just switched to the Sprint HTC Hero last week, after playing with it at the sprint store a few days earlier. I was so impressed with the the ease of use, eye candy, and simply how well it performs. Also, you cannot get a better browser on a phone. It already supports flash lite, which the iphone does not, and will be supporting full flash soon, which the iphone wont.

It basically does everything the iphone does, but better, and without the "apple virus" running in the background, enforcing its draconian/CNN style control policies.

This is coming from a dedicated winmo user, who had the Apache, the Mogul, and the Touch Pro. I had a good TP too, absolutely zero problems, and I really enjoyed using WM6.5, but the android just kills it. Im not too optimistic about wm7 at this point, so Im not worried about it. I cant wait to test out the phone's streaming ability through Orb sometime soon.

The *ONLY* feature from winmo, that I have not been able to find a simple solution for is tethering. Im using the 30day pdanet right now, and not sure what Im going to do after that. Its ok, but you have to install pdanet software on both phone and PC. I already rooted my phone, and installed a couple of wifi-tethering apps, but cant seem to connect with either one. Maybe this will be resolved with a custom rom, as usb charging/tethering is essential. But even this, is no dealbreaker for me, as the phone is just spectacular.

I sold my TP2 a couple weeks ago and picked up a Hero. I'd have to say my biggest issue was getting used to the on-screen keyboard. My last four phones had a hardware keyboard, so it definitely took some getting used to. Now that I'm pretty comfortable with the on-screen... I LOVE MY PHONE and I'm glad I made the switch.

I started of with an HTC Vogue, after going through 4 of those, and finally getting a good port of Rhodium on it, I switched to a Touch Pro. I went through six of those phones in 4 months. Sold that f@#%&r on Craigslist. Waited till the hero for sprint hit the shelves, nought it the day it came out. Loved it ever since. Would I ever go back? Maybe, but my decision wouldn't be on the phones software. I mean, it took Winmo how long to get where it's at? Android just went mainstream what, a year ago? And it's already trumping it. So for me, it would be what said phone would offer hardware wise. Winmo 7 might be considered a contender, but by the time it hits the phones, I'll have had 3 different updates... do the math.

I came from a Touch Pro and most recently a Treo Pro to the Hero and for the most part I'm satisfied. Android Market is great, changing Roms at will without wiping everything is spectacular and the overall feel of the OS is very solid. That said, I do miss my SlingPlayer (a lot) and my video out. I used to be able to play my SlingBox (or surf the web) in my car and send it out to the radio's 7" screen for the kids.

As for tethering? Put on a custom rom like Fresh or TTG, they both have wireless tethering built in and it works great. I won't go back to WinMo.

Prolly isn't a good thing I found this thread...just recently got a TP2 but am now toying with the idea of trying the Hero...

I made the switch and for the most part am happy with it, the phone is awesome.

What I don't like is HTC's lack of support for Vista 64 and Win 7, I use my phone for business and Outlook for my contacts and calendar. I have tried all the workarounds and fixes to get my Hero to sync with Outlook but absolutely nothing works! I had to resort to exporting as a csv file to gmail and loading them that way, but that does nothing for syncing when I add contacts on the phone while I am out and I am still sol on the calendar.

If WinMo 7 is a hit I will probably switch back, unless HTC pulls their head out and gets support across the board.

@VulcanGrey, I still have my Simply Everything plan, no changes required. They will try and talk people out of them if they can.
