Windows Phone 7 Series for HTC HD2: More Proof?
By: Brandon Miniman | Date: 25-Feb-10 | Time to add another piece of evidence in favor of the upgrade. This time, it comes from the Adobe forums, in a thread where community members are chatting with Adobe representatives about Flash support on mobile devices. The user asks: What I need to know is: - what will be the first Android phone for which a Flash Player 10.1 alpha/preview will be released? - what will be the first Windows Mobile phone for which a Flash Player 10.1 alpha/preview will be released? - When? To that, the Adobe rep replies: We're waiting for OS updates from Google and Microsoft before we can distribute a Flash Player Beta. We expect this to happen early this year. Thank you for your patience! The first Android devices that will support Flash Player are the Droid and Nexus One. The first WinMo device will be the HTC HD2. And in another reply, the Adobe rep mentions: You can expect the final release for Android to be available mid-year. All Android devices that meet our minimum s/w and h/w requirements will be supported. Unfortunately, I cannot say a lot more publicly about our port to the Android platform at this time. As for WinMo, we have made the tough decision to defer support for that platform until WinMo7. This is due to the fact that WinMo6.5 does not support some of the critical APIs that we need. So wait a sec - if Adobe isn't adding flash to Windows Phone until version 7, and the HD2 will be the first device to have it, doesn't this mean that the HD2 will run Windows Phone 7 Series? Connecting the dots, this seems to be the case. Thanks for the tip, Renato P. http://pocketnow.com/rumor/windows-p...hd2-more-proof

Re: HD2 to have ability to upgrade to Windows Mobile 7
Microsoft on HTC HD2 WP7 upgrade: HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons”
March 1st, 2010 | Author: admin HTC HD2 owners hoping for some good news regarding a Windows Phone 7 series upgrade for the HTC HD2 can it seems now officially lower their expectations to zero. Microsoft has confirmed, in an interview with APC Magazine, that the device does not meet their very strict criteria for the new OS. Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, told APC: “Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable”; the HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons”. Tony Wilkinson, Business Operations Director for Microsoft Australia, hinted to APC that it may be due to more than that however. “There are some hardware components that the HD doesn’t have”. Microsoft is hoping to keep Windows Mobile 6.5 in the market as a low cost and enterprise platform however, and hope recent enhancements to the OS will keep it competitive. “We think there are people who will want 6.5, and the 6.x platform has a lot of enterprise and line of business apps” Kwan said. “A lot of 6.5 applications have been built very much from the old paradigm of the stylus. Those legacy apps will be a lot more compatible on 6.5.3 because we have magnifier technology which lets you use your finger for navigating, even though it has a much bigger surface area.” Has Microsoft just scuppered future sales of the HTC HD2? Microsoft sending mixed signals on Windows Phone 7 Series upgrades, HTC HD2 still in limbo
By Nilay Patel posted Mar 1st 2010 3:37PM The fate of the mighty HTC HD2 seems to be getting murkier by the minute: Microsoft UK VP Alex Reeve said last week that an upgrade to Windows Phone 7 Series might be left up to hardware partners, but now Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft's Asia Pacific Mobile Communications Business says the 1GHz handset "doesn't qualify because it doesn't have the three buttons" required by WP7. Making matters even less clear, we asked Microsoft's Director of Consumer Experiences Aaron Woodman about the HD2 directly on The Engadget Show, and he politely declined to tell us about the device's upgradability, and said that WP7's final required specs would be revealed at MIX '10. We'll be honest: we're taking all this confusion to mean that Microsoft hasn't quite figured out how to say the HD2 is at a dead end just before it launches on T-Mobile US, but hey -- maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised at MIX. http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/01/m...series-upgrad/ |

HTC HD2 and Windows Phone 7 Series: Just tell us no, Microsoft
By Paul Miller posted Mar 4th 2010 12:29PM We've had it up here with these shenanigans. You're jerking us around, and we're sick of it. We get it, you have a very particular concept of what sort of phones you want running your new Windows Phone 7 Series OS. Not only do we get it, but we're kind of proud of you for sticking up for yourself for once and ensuring some sort of sameness across your platform. Unfortunately, it's not the holiday season yet, so we can't buy one of these fancy WP7S phones yet. Meanwhile, on the other end of town, HTC is bringing the HD2 to T-Mobile in the US this month. Sure, it runs your soon-to-be-outdated Windows Mobile 6.5 OS which nobody wants, but it's also pretty much the best hardware we've ever seen. Bar none. This brings us to our plea: Microsoft, please put a line in the sand and tell us if the phone will be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7 Series. Of course we know why you won't, you don't want to "Osborne effect" the sales of your one last hope for Windows Mobile 6.5 success, and you don't want to harm one of your most loyal handset builders. But what about your consumers? You've recently pushed out a number of statements about the device, full of wimpy non-line-in-sand-ers like "We currently do not have plans to update the HTC HD2 to Windows Phone 7 Series." Sure, you're not telling us to get our hopes up, but you're also just cruel and calculating enough to leave room for hope. We're pretty resigned at this point to receiving our Windows Phone 7 Series update on the HD2 from our good friends at xda-developers, but we'd just like to hear it from your mouth. Or better yet? Just get WP7S on there yourself, caveat it as "non-preferred" or whatever makes you comfortable, and save us all from this paralysis. http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/h...-no-microsoft/ |

Confirmed: HTC HD2 will not be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 series
By Nilay Patel posted Mar 15th 2010 5:59PM Bad news, HTC HD2 owners: Microsoft has finally come right out and confirmed our suspicions that the mighty HTC HD2 won't be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 Series. That certainly puts a damper on the HD2's upcoming launch on T-Mobile, http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/15/c...phone-7-serie/ |
