Re: Rooted HTC EVO

Can anyone tell me what will happen if I try to do the Factory data reset on my phone now that it is rooted and I have removed applications through root explorer? Will it all go back to stock and unroot it?

come to think of it you should have done a nandroid after rooting the phone and that way you could always flash back to that, plus your wifi rsa keys would have been backed up because if you lose those you will be screwed and won't be able to use 4G.

So I may be screwed when 4G becomes available in my area? The directions I found for removing applications didn't say anything about "nandroid". What is that?

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

Hard resetting will not unroot the phone. Since the apps were removed through root explorer I don't think they will come back via hard reset. In all the threads regarding rooting, a nandroid backup is always suggested immediately following the root process. Check those threads as there is a way to see if you still have your rsa keys for 4g then perform a nandroid backup from recovery so you don't have to worry about losing them and have a restore point.

Thanks for the feedback, I will look into this and take your advice. Here is the link to the directions I followed, and it does not say anything about nandroid that I see. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-evo-4g...uilt-apps.html

Thanks again

Sorry It didn't register at first that you meant when I rooted the phone not when I removed the apps. I followed a video I found on youtube that did not mention nandroid or I would have certainly followed the directions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OmPc...eature=related

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

NANDROID has nothing to do with removing the programs. It merely clones your OS and setting so if you delete the wrong program you can always restore back

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

I just downloaded ROM Manager and made a backup of my current configuration. If I haven't flashed to a different ROM and am still on the stock rom wouldn't my rsa keys still be there? I cant find any directions on how to check if anyone can point me in the right direction?

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

Stickies on the first page will tell you everything:

Pasted from there:

******** Nand Backup and Nand Restore********
There are 2 options for making backups and restoring.
1) The easy method is to use Rom Manager. Install Rom Manager from the Market.
2) Put your phone into Recovery Mode and do all the steps manually.

Section 3 - Rom Manager Nand Backup/Restore -
3A) Go to the Market and download/install "Rom Manager" by ClockworkMod and then open it.
There is a free one and a donation one.

3B) Once it's opened, select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"

3C) Confirm your phone is an HTC Evo (CDMA)
Wait a couple minutes while it does it thing. When it's finished you'll get a "Successfully flashed ClockworkMod recovery!"

3D) Select "Backup Current Rom" and you'll have the option of naming it. Default is the Date and Time (2010-06-23-22.25.19) YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-SS
And that's it. Rom is backed up. If you try to flash another rom and don't like it or you make changes and mess something up, you can just restore the backup you just made and be right back where you were.

3E) To restore the Rom, select "Manager and Restore Backups"

3F) Select the Rom from the list of available backups. (You'll have the option to Restore/Rename/Delete)

3G) Choose Restore and select which parts you want to restore. All of them are checked by default.
You're choices are;
Restore Boot
Restore System
Restore Data
Restore Cache
Restore SD-Ext

Selecting all them will do a complete restore of your rom. I haven't experimented to see what the different parts do.

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

These are the directions I had followed just before I put that last post. It doesn't explain if I am safe as far as my rsa keys for 4G goes. My only question now is since I made a backup and am still on the stock rom are my rsa keys safe? I want to start trying out the link you have in your signature to all of those different roms but I want to make certain I am backed up properly first.

Thanks!

Re: Rooted HTC EVO

you need to go to recovery (with phone off, power on+hold down volume), it say nand backup/restore. Everything will be backed up. I never had my keys deleted and i must have flashed like a billion times. But as long as you have the nand backup you should be good.

Since you hadn't changed roms your RSA keys are safe and now that you have a nandroid backup they are backed up within that so you can change roms if you want to.
