Rooted HTC EVO

I rooted my EVO with unrevoked and have gone through with root explorer and deleted a bunch of the sprint apps and ones that I knew I would not use. My question is if I need to take the phone in for service to a sprint store at any time can I just do a factory reset or because of it being rooted do I need to take other steps to put it back to factory? I know there may be information on this elsewhere, but I have searched here and through google and cant seem to find a definite answer. Thanks to anyone who can clarify for me!

I would try the factory reset and see if it works, if not below is the link to a thread with the sprint stock roms that you can flash to and then unroot your phone and then take it in, but don't worry about if your rooted unless you think its a software issue because from everything i have read no ones had issues with a rooted phone if there screen was cracked or anything like that.

come to think of it you should have done a nandroid after rooting the phone and that way you could always flash back to that, plus your wifi rsa keys would have been backed up because if you lose those you will be screwed and won't be able to use 4G.

Technically you have to flash back and re-enable security (s-on, right now you have s-off). Realistically, just the reflash should suffice

Thanks for the quick responses! I am not currently experiencing any issues, so I am just researching ahead of time because we never know when something will fail or go wrong. I have not flashed the rom I have only rooted the phone to use wifi tethering and installed root explorer to remove some of the apps that are useless to me. So since I am still on the stock rom I would think just doing the Factory data reset would work? I just do not want to turn this thing into a paper weight that sprint will not warranty if it does start to have issues. Hoping someone has made similar changes and had to take it in for service and can tell me how they put it all back to original? Again thanks for any advice given!

I dont see a reason to even touch it if you are still on the stock rom.

It totally does but most are so dumb they won't notice if it looks stock

In Sprint's eye, rooting the phone does void your warranty. I know some technicians that work in corp Sprint service centers and they get regular updates on how to check if a particular phone is rooted so that if someone brings one in that is, they can flag it as unrepairable and require it to be replaced through asurion. Sprint is really trying to save money right now through S&R by replacing parts and not whole phones which if it is a software issue, the phone has to be replaced so techs are being much more thorough.

So what if I have a hardware issue that is unrelated to the software and Im rooted, will they repair the part?

Technically they are not supposed to but each Tech has a different opinion. They aren't supposed to replace a screen if the crack is more than 1" anymore but some in my area, others don't so its hit/miss.
